Renowned Italian Abstract Artist Umberto Albanese Presented by Gennaro Sbarro in Salute’s! “New to New York” Exhibition Series

Albanese’s exhibition “From Dusk to Dawn” honors Matilda Cuomo, Founder of Mentoring USA

New York, (PRWEB) November 22, 2005 -- In collaboration with the Art Alliance of Soho, the exquisite setting of Salute! is the venue of choice for introducing abstract painter UMBERTO ALBANESE to New York for his first stateside solo exhibition. Italian born Albanese lives a dual existence: he is both an internationally renowned artist and a highly skilled cardiologist. The intensity of his poetic and lyrical chromatic expression has captured international accolades, while his parallel devotion to medicine brings an undeniable dimension of urgency to his work.

“The open invitation of Gennaro Sbarro to organize an exhibition series of famous artists who have yet to break into the New York art scene created an opportunity free from the typical gallery constraints. The program “New to New York” is quality based, unfettered by commercial considerations, and guarantees visibility of the work to a highly sophisticated audience of a thousand people daily.” states Leah Poller, Director of the Art Alliance of Soho and curator for the “New to New York” exhibition series.

Albanese and Poller saw the exhibition opening for “From Dusk to Dawn” as an ideal opportunity to pay homage to the outstanding community efforts of ex-First Lady Matilda Cuomo, Founder and Director of Mentoring USA, an international organization addressing critical educational needs of children. “The arts have always helped our children find hope in hard times, and Albanese colorful energy is an inspiration,” affirms Cuomo.

Famed restaurateur Gennaro Sbarro’s invitation to Albanese answers his personal mission to use the Salute! environment to propose a multi-dimensional quality of life. “Albanese’s vibrant images are only half of the story. He has chosen to balance a lifetime of service in one of Italy’s poorest regions as a highly qualified cardiologist, while offering his poetic vision as an artist facing life and death situations daily,” states Sbarro. “From Dusk to Dawn” opens with an invitation only cocktail reception at Salute! (39th and Madison Avenue) on Monday November 21, from 5:00 to 7:00 pm and continues until January 15 2006.

Albanese’s work has been exhibited in many prestigious venues such as the Palazzo delle Esposizioni, Roma, 1994 - Museo di Cortina d'Ampezzo 1995 - Biennale d'arte Contemporanea Firenze, 1996 - Artefiera, Bologna, 1998 - Internazionale delle avanguardie Contemporanee, Venezia, 1999.Today, his work is present in the permanent collections of Contemporary Art Museums throughout Italy and abroad.
