Making New Year's Resolutions Stick: The Missing Ingredient

Download this press release as an Adobe PDF document.

New Year’s Resolutions by themselves are ineffective; most people need additional support to jump-start their goals.

Frederick, MD (PressReleaseHelp/PRWeb) November 28, 2005 -- Every year at this time, people list resolutions for things they would like to achieve in the next 12 months. People vow to lose weight, quit smoking, and start a new business. And yet, even before the end of January, most resolution makers are back where they were, having given up.

Is such failure inevitable? "No," says Jim Jenkins, president and founder of Creative Visions Consulting. "Hire a coach for at least 90 days and get the support you need to make your resolutions reality."

When people stay focused the first few months of the New Year, they are more likely to make lasting changes in their lives
Jenkins has created the 90-Day Coaching Challenge, a program that begins January, 2006. The offer includes nine half hour coaching sessions, weekly email check-ins, a bi-weekly newsletter, and specific resources such as books, CDs or films to help clients reach their goals. The program is designed to help people fulfill their resolutions as soon as the new calendar is on the wall, keeping people energized the first several months of 2006.

“When people stay focused the first few months of the New Year, they are more likely to make lasting changes in their lives,” says Jenkins. “Resolutions require planning and action. You need to conceive of what you want, believe you can achieve it and then — and only then — go out and do it.

"Coaching keeps people accountable and focused in achieving their goals. It's like learning a new sport -- you don't develop the perfect serve in tennis without a lot of practice. A coach is the resource who’s there with you to make sure you stay on target—even if you encounter a little resistance," says Jenkins. The core of this program is if you stick with something for at least 90 days, chances are you’ll develop new habits to make those changes stick.”

Jim Jenkins, founder and president of Creative Visions Consulting, has over 20 years in the corporate world at such companies as Booz Allen Hamilton, Long Fence, and AT&T.
