John R. Sorrenti, president of Mineola, NY-based JRS Architect PC, has been named to the New York State Board of Architecture, effective Dec. 1, 2005.

Mineola, NY (PRWEB) December 1, 2005 -- The New York State Board of Regents has appointed John R. Sorrenti, founder and president of JRS Architect, PC, to the New York State Board of Architecture. Sorrenti, whose appointment is effective today, is the first Long Islander to be appointed to the board in decades,

Sorrenti, 55, a resident of Glen Cove, is one of eight members on the board, seven of them licensed architects.

The board oversees licensing and professional conduct of architects. Among other things, it reviews the credentials of architects from outside New York, among them architectural luminaries such as Renzo Piano, Santiago Calatrava and Lord Norman Forster, who have been selected to design major projects in New York.

“I am honored to have been named to this board,” Sorrenti said, noting that the agency is important not only to the architectural profession, but also to the public, which it is charged with protecting.

Sorrenti, who holds degrees in architecture from New York Institute of Technology and Ohio University, is a Fellow of the American Institute of Architects and is the New York State representative to
national A.I.A. In addition, he is a past president of the A.I.A. Long Island Chapter, past president of the New York State A.I.A. and a past vice president of the national AIA. He is also a member of the Town of North Hempstead Landmarks Preservations Commission.

Serving as a lobbyist for legislative issues, Sorrenti has achieved a reputation for quality of leadership. In 1991, on behalf of the AIA, Sorrenti helped to form the guidelines for the Americans with Disabilities Act and in 1993, assisted with the New York City ADA code. Sorrenti also served on the National Architectural Accrediting Board committee for college accreditation programs, has performed reviews of his peers for the American Council of Engineering Companies.

JRS Architect with offices in Mineola, NY, and Princeton, NJ, has grown from six people since its establishment in 1986 to more than 30 today. It has developed design expertise in the corporate, financial, healthcare, education and residential markets. The firm ranks within Interior Design Magazine’s list of 100 Giants in the nation.
