New Lacedonia Plant for the Production of Grande Punto Car Components Inaugurated

Negri Bossi and Gaiotto provide efficient industrial partnership.

(PRWEB) December 9, 2005 -- Sigit’s Lacedonia-based production plant, which makes components for the "Grande Punto" car that is assembled at the FIAT plant in Melfi, has now been inaugurated. Sigit’s industrial partners in this enterprise are Negri Bossi and Gaiotto of the Sacmi Group.

Some of the components made at the new plant are complex and play an important role in aesthetics – such as the "trunk lining" and "hatch assembly” – while others, such as the “anti-theft shield" and the " knee bag assembly" are essential to security and safety.

To produce these and other components Sigit has purchased 9 fully robotized Negri Bossi presses: these vary in pressing power from 210 to 1250 tons and have been designed to meet the exacting standards of the automobile industry in terms of both productivity and quality and offer outstanding reliability.

Sigit was particularly interested in minimising production costs. The limited energy consumption of Negri Bossi presses, together with Gaiotto’s highly efficient automated moulded piece assembly solutions, proved to be ideal for that purpose.

More specifically, Gaiotto has developed a fully integrated "hatch assembly" automation system: using anthropomorphous robots, this automatically manages the pick-up of components from the two 1000 ton presses, cutting of pieces on automatic stations where assembly of the fixing systems with the sheet metal hatch is completed, insertion of rubber plugs and the positioning and ultrasound welding of the handle.
The purpose of all this is to achieve comprehensive control of the components within a total cycle time of less than 40 seconds for each fully assembled hatch produced.

In realising such smoothly integrated applications, Negri Bossi and Gaiotto have shown themselves to be the ideal partners, from both a practical and a creative viewpoint, when it comes to meeting customers’ needs.
