QED Information Systems, Inc. worked in collaboration with Sun Microsystems as an initial beta tester of the Sun SolarisTM 10 Operating System for the financial community.

Marlton, NJ(PRWEB)December 12, 2005 -- Throughout this year, QED Information Systems, Inc. worked in collaboration with Sun Microsystems as an initial beta tester of the Sun SolarisTM 10 Operating System (OS) for the financial community. Delivering “relentless availability, optimal utilization, extreme performance, and unparalleled security,” the Solaris 10 OS enhances QED’s Q2 Investment Workflow System and significantly improves customer operating environments.

Q2, optimized for the Solaris operating system, is a leading investment accounting, portfolio management, and securities operations workflow systems platform for institutional investment management enterprises. Q2 combines the hardware, software, messaging, and market connectivity that allow QED’s customers to reduce their operational costs and risks associated with implementing and sustaining multi-supplier solutions.

Solaris 10 OS Dynamic Tracing (Dtrace) technology delivers enhanced systems availability for the Q2 software suite. Dtrace technology allows customers to diagnose system issues in real-time with no risk of system downtime. Furthermore, the predictive Self-Healing functionality of the Solaris 10 OS protects the Q2 software suite through automatic diagnosis and correction of CPU, memory, and input/output issues, as well as automatically restarting failed applications.

The introduction of Solaris Containers means that system administrators can now partition any server running the Solaris 10 operating system into multiple fault- and security-isolated application environments. With multiple partitions per single instance of the Solaris 10 OS, Containers make consolidation simple and secure by ensuring that applications are isolated from one another and any potential system faults, while providing the ability to dynamically adjust resources to meet business goals within and across applications.

Specific optimizations in the Solaris 10 operating system for both UltraSPARC and AMD Opteron-based systems have resulted in significant performance improvements, with many customers seeing out-of-the-box increases of up to 30%.

Of special interest to QED technicians are the security measures incorporated into the Solaris 10 operating system. These security features provide stronger mechanisms for controlling access to critical Q2 system facilities, support for cryptographic algorithms, integrated IP-filtering, and individualized rights management. These individual security enhancements, coupled with the use of Containers for isolating applications and user data from error propagation and security intrusion, exemplify Sun Microsystem’s 20-year history of building security into its operating system design.

QED will begin delivering the Q2 Investment Workflow System staged on the Solaris 10 operating system for new clients in late 2005, and will begin offering the SunOS 10 environment to existing clients in 2006.
