Independent Contractors Prefer Non-Traditional Work Arrangement as Professional and Business Services Grow

According to recent employment data from the U.S. Department of Labor, the majority of independent contractors prefer their work arrangement to a traditional job. Workers enjoy greater control and flexibility in their work assignments, and many also have higher-than-average earnings. The large degree of autonomy translates into greater job satisfaction, with a full 82% indicating that they prefer their non-traditional job arrangement.

Cleveland, Ohio (PRWEB) December 14, 2005 –- When the going gets tough, the tough get going, and it seems that once they do they are happy to be gone. In the face of tightening markets and rightsizing corporations, many business professionals have left traditional corporate work arrangements and hired themselves out as independent contractors. While potentially losing job stability – if it wasn’t already lost before – and steady pay and benefits, they appear to be enjoying the variety and flexibility of working independently.

Although not all workers in alternative employment arrangements favored their situations, with on-call and temporary workers less partial to alternative arrangements, independent contractors enjoy a greater amount of control, and therefore greater satisfaction, with their career path. Particularly in the Professional and Business Services sector, employment and earnings have climbed steadily since 2003. These sectors might include opportunities in sales, telemarketing, financial services, and management consulting. Independent Contractors also enjoy less limited earning and growth potential and get to bypass many of the frustrations with a traditional work environment.

JMS Elite, a Cleveland, Ohio business development firm that delivers high-end lead generation solutions to its clients has built an effective team of independent contractors by offering flexibility, independence and aggressive residual bonuses that win over traditional sales professionals. John Magyari, one of the managing principals at JMS, explains that the arrangement has provided benefits to both the firm and their team, allowing greater flexibility and variety to meet their project demands. The Business Development Executives who are located throughout the U.S. work from home, developing prospects for major clients, including the Fortune 500, and earn generous bonuses on the leads they produce. Residual bonuses allow successful Business Development Executives to receive compensation for past client work while starting on new client engagements and with a client retention of 85%+ this can be very lucrative.

A full 82% of employed independent contractors prefer their alternative arrangement and were the happiest with its advantages. With the explosion in technology, and the business environment in general, many believe that this is a great time to “go solo.” According to the Fall 2005 Occupational Outlook Quarterly published by the Bureau of Labor Statistics, as many as 14 million people, about 11% of all workers, were employed in alternative arrangements in February 2005, and that number is expected to grow.
