The United States Postal Service (USPS) has announced that it will be implementing a rate increase next year. The cost of mailing a letter will increase to 39 cents, and the cost of mailing a postcard will increase to 24 cents on January 8, 2006. It is the first postal rate increase since June 2002.

Brea, Calif. (PRWEB) December 14, 2005 -- The United States Postal Service (USPS) has announced that it will be implementing a rate increase next year. The cost of mailing a letter will increase to 39 cents, and the cost of mailing a postcard will increase to 24 cents on January 8, 2006. It is the first postal rate increase since June 2002.

Avery® Print and Mail Center, the direct mail marketing group of Avery Dennison Worldwide Office Products, is encouraging direct mail customers to send end-of-year communications, such as holiday greeting cards and corporate holiday postcards, to avoid the increase. For businesses using direct mail, mailing now will save roughly 5.4%, depending on the type of mailing. Business owners can take advantage of the lower rate by mailing before the January 8th deadline.

According to the U.S. Direct Marketing Association (DMA), direct mail is still the No. 1 marketing method used by marketers. More than half of all adults say they prefer to receive advertising and promotional material through the mail, according to the DMA. A recent USPS survey reported that almost one-quarter of respondents said they visited a web site specifically because they received mail from that retailer.

Avery Print and Mail Center, www.printandmailcenter.com, provides one-stop, web-based printing and mailing services for many products, including postcards, brochures, self-mailers, holiday cards, business cards, letterhead, invitations and more. The PMC even provides a Rent-a-Mailing-List feature for businesses who want to send correspondence beyond their house lists to new prospects.
