BREMERTON, WA (PRWEB) December 20, 2005 -- Gary Blankenship, poet and publisher, has completed his study of Chinese-style poetry, A River Transformed. The volume provides an alternative view of Eastern poetry as an English art form in conjunction with Lulu (www.lulu.com), the world’s fastest-growing provider of print-on-demand books.
A River Transformed provides a free form sonnet, tanka and cinquain for each of Wang Wei’s River Wang poems and publishes a set of other Eastern poetry, many in the style of Chinese Short Songs. Wang Wei is considered to be one of China’s “Four Sages,” the best poets in the tradition. In addition, he is thought to be the inventor of scroll painting.
Gary wrote A River Transformed as part of his continuing study of Eastern forms. He considers himself to be like the 18th century English farmers who discovered the science of geology by collecting fossils from their fields.
“Eastern poetry is refreshing and peaceful,” said Gary. “but difficult to write in English. My ultimate goal is to develop rules for it to be successfully composed in English, to take advantage of the strengths of English.”

Gary Blankenship is a retired federal manager who dabbles in poetry and publishing. He is CEO of Santiam Publishing and publishes the online journal, MindFire Renewed and its companion, FireWeed, both at www.mindfirerenew.com. Gary has been widely published on the web and in a variety of paper publications in the States and abroad, including in the Tanka Journal of Japan 2005 anthology, The Tanka Society of America quarterly and the Seattle PI.
