ISO 20000 Service Management Standard Published

Download this press release as an Adobe PDF document.

The international IT Service Management standard has finally been published, changing the whole landscape for IT service providers.

(PRWEB) December 17, 2005 -- The international IT Service Management standard has finally been published, changing the whole landscape for IT service providers. Based upon BS15000, the widely used standard from BSI, ISO 20000 comprises two distinct documents:

ISO 20000-1
This is a Specification for Service Management, and is the actual standard against which formal certification is granted.

ISO 20000-2
This is a Code of Practice for Service Management, offering guidance and recommendations, and is designed to support the first part of the standard.

The Global Implications

This is an extremely significant development, for the first time creating a globally recognized certifiable framework for IT service
management. It defines an integrated process approach for delivery of managed services, and offers a range of substantive benefits.

Importantly, it aligns with ITIL, the globally adopted IT Infrastructure Library, which offers individual certification (as opposed to the organizational certification offered by ISO standards).

Official Sources of the Standard

The new standards can currently be downloaded from:
StandardsDirect (BSI): http://20000.standardsdirect.org

It will also be available shortly from SNV (Swiss Standards) via:
Standards Online: http://www.standards-online.net

Finally, the standards are available as part of the ISO 20000 Support Kit:
http://www.20000-toolkit.com

ISO 20000 is widely predicted to become one of the most commonly adopted standards in the world, potentially rivaling ISO 9000 in terms of uptake. Its initial publication therefore marks an extremely important milestone in the service management arena.
