New York, NY (PRWEB) February 7, 2005 -- The Napoli Bern LLP law firm from New York City is involved with a coalition off attorneys from across the US in filing a major environmental lawsuit in Desoto County, Florida against Jacksonville, Florida based CSX Transportation Corporation. The lawsuit seeks $500 million in damages for injuries to residents of Hull, Florida and the Peace River basin caused by the CSX Transportations Creosote Pit which is located in Hull.

The Creosote Pit is an unlined, open, treatment facility. It was operated for over thirty years in the Hull, Florida location by several predecessor companies that became CSX Transportation. In the fifty years since the operations ceased the Florida Department of Environmental Regulation states that the pit still has elevated levels of anthracene, fluroanthene, pyrene and benzene." These carcinogenic chemicals have leached into the groundwater and affected local drinking water.

The lawsuit also details the negative affects on property values throughout the Peace River basin area and seeks actual and punitive damages. A jury trial has been demanded.
