Entertainment Company Makes Money by Giving its Creations Away

The entire first season of "The Unlikely Adventures of Malex and Icepunk" is to be released in print on March 1st by the Malex Media Network's new book division. The Malex Media Network team has put everything into this one - spending some nine months on the project, and giving one chapter away at a time on the internet. Soon, the whole first season will be available to purchase in print on the internet and at participating retailers...

Pataskala, OH (PRWEB) February 7, 2005 -- Would you buy a book if you could legally read it for free online? That's exactly what a small team of creative individuals, collectively called the "Malex Media Network", expects their audience to do during quarter one of 2005, when they release their first paperback to shelves and the internet.

Using a Creative Commons license, the team not only gives copies of their work away, they encourage people to give copies to their friends as well. "We're not a huge company," Alex Markley, the leader of the team, asserts. "We can't expect people to know what we're doing or who we are unless the people who enjoy our stuff tell their friends. The best way to do that is to burn a CD or make a copy."

The team's most recent project, "The Unlikely Adventures of Malex and Icepunk", is a serialized comedy about two disaster-prone roommates. Alex Markley and John Morgan are working as co-authors on the project, and are gearing up for the release of their first book through the team's new publishing division. "This is where we really expect to make or break the Creative Commons business model," Alex Markley said. "We plan on making our money by selling copies of the book, merchandise, and advertising to an audience that we've gathered around ourselves by giving away free samples." The entire book will be available for free eventually, but until then, the paperback will be available online and at participating retailers.

The Malex Media Network plans on leveraging their success with "The Unlikely Adventures of Malex and Icepunk" to move toward bigger success in the future. "If we have an audience, we can apply this same model almost anywhere," mused Alex. "For example, we could produce and release a filmed mini-series over the internet - always making the next installment available to purchase. So, by spending $8 on a video disk, you would be able to watch the next installment at high quality before the people on the internet can even get a glimpse."

The team itself has had years of experience making entertainment, including short films, music videos, electronic music, audio dramas, live entertainment events and video games. "We've been at this for years," said Alex, "and we hope to use that experience to entertain people in creative ways for many more years to come."
