The Purple Finger of Iraq - New Symbol of Freedom?

A new company asserts that the purple stained finger of Iraqi voters repesents a new symbol of freedom and they have started a company that sells t-shirts, mugs, and caps that feature that symbol.

Santa Monica, CA (PRWEB) February 8, 2005 -- A new company called FreedomInPurple.com launched a website that the founder, Israel Amadores, says "is a reminder of the success of the Iraqi elections and the further validation of the ongoing march of democracy." The company initially is selling tshirts, mugs. and, caps but plans to expand into other venues with the main design logo being a hand with outstretched index finger stained purple. It hasn't been without controvery however. Asked about the design that says "give a liberal the finger," Amadores says that "it is just a playful way of saying that the power of democracy should never be underestimated and is the rightful domain of all people.

Some on the left in this country have a negative or pessimistic view regarding the power of democracy, the tshirt just reminds them of the power of democracy in a lighthearted way." Other designs feature the company name FreedomInPurple and Score One for Democracy. The designs are gaining interest among diverse people, Amadores says ,"People of all political inclinations seem to like the shirts, I think people want to take the heat off of politics in this country. Overall the purple finger means hope as the Iraqi people demonstated. As a result, people of varying backrounds seem to like it. It is as much a peace symbol as it is a validation of the war effort to others." 10% of the profits of all sales go to the Wounded Warrior Project that assists US soldiers injured in Iraq, Afganistan, and elsewhere. Amadores added," and I think we can all agree that our brave soldiers deserve all the support that we can provide."
