Leaders in the Illinois legal community just released study that documents the legal needs of low income Illinois residents. The results show that although low-income Illinoisans faced more than one million legal problems last year, they had to resolve the majority of those problems on their own—-without legal assistance. Metropolitan Family Services Legal Aid Bureau is the oldest provider of legal aid to the poor in Chicago and has experts available to discuss this issue.

Issue: As is the oldest provider of legal aid to the poor in Chicago, Metropolitan Family Services Legal Aid Bureau provided free legal aid to more than 11,500 clients last year. Metropolitan Family Services Legal Aid Bureau understands the importance of making true legal representation available to all people and has experts who can discuss legal issues of lower-income residents including:

Expert: Kendra Reinshagen, Executive Director, Legal Aid Bureau
Kendra Reinshagen has been Executive Director of the Legal Aid Bureau since March 2004. Previously she served as Supervisory Attorney for five years at the Legal Assistance Foundation of Chicago. Prior to joining the Legal Assistance Foundation of Chicago, she spent more than ten years at Metropolitan's Legal Aid Bureau, most recently as Managing Attorney.
Ms. Reinshagen has been appointed to a statewide advisory board, convened by Attorney General Lisa Madigan, to assist with the "Family Violence Accountability Project" being conducted by the Family Law Center at DePaul University's College of Law.
In April 2003, the Chief Judge of the Domestic Relations Division nominated Reinshagen to participate on a committee to study and recommend a comprehensive rules design for the Division. Ms. Reinshagen is a long-time member of the Chicago Bar Association's Matrimonial Law Committee and co-chairs its subcommittee on domestic violence. She holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Northeastern Illinois University in Pre-law and Women's Studies and a Juris Doctorate Degree from DePaul University College of Law.
