Biography of The Singing Nun to be Released in March 2005 - Music from the Soul: The Singing Nun Story

The first English language biography on Soeur Sourire, the Singing Nun will be released on March 5, 2005 by PublishAmerica. Written by D.A. Chadwick with Florence Delaporte

20th Anniversary of The Singing Nun's Tragic Death.

(PRWEB) January 1, 2005 -- On March 29, 1985 Jeannine Deckers ended her own life along with her lifetime companion, Annie Pecker in their apartment in Wavre, Belgium.

Deckers was known to the world as Soeur Sourire or The Singing Nun whose hit "Dominique" topped the music charts in 1963. She left the Dominican order in 1966 to embark on a religious vocation in the laity, which promoted Philips Studios to cancel her music contract.

After years of failures, drug and alcohol addictions, struggles with her sexuality and the symptoms of bipolar disorder, Deckers took her own life believing that she had failed in her mission. Millions still remember the smiling nun who charmed their hearts in the 1960s and took the number one slot from the song, "Louie, Louie."

It was the wish of Jeannine Deckers that her unpublished journals be used to tell the true story of her life. The movie made by MGM in 1966, "The Singing Nun", was fictionalized and bore little resemble to the real life of Deckers and Fichermont convent.

D.A. Chadwick and Florence Delaporte have devoted a combined eight years of research into the elusive life of Jeannine Deckers. Delaporte is the author of the only other biography in print, Brulee aux feux de la ramp published by Plon, Paris 1996.
