Film studio sponsors event honoring the project which inspired Lightfields Home Videos"
Hollywood, CA (PRWEB) March 6, 2005 -- Beverly Hills Film Studios, Inc., in association with Joshua Miller and Big Screen Entertainment, sponsored a party held Saturday, February 27th for the independent film Tarnation" in honor of its nomination for Best Documentary" at the 2005 Independent Spirit Awards. Tarnation", filmmaker Jonathan Caouette's documentary on growing up with his schizophrenic mother -- a mixture of snapshots, Super-8, answering machine messages, video diaries, early short films, and more -- culled from 19 years of his life, has received rave reviews from critics and fans, and established an exciting new sub-genre within documentary filmmaking.
The film, which was written and directed by Caouette, screened at the 2004 Sundance Film Festival and was Executive Produced by Gus Van Sant (To Die For, Good Will Hunting) and John Cameron Mitchell (Hedwig and the Angry Itch). Beverly Hills Film Studio felt that the party for this film was a great opportunity for co-sponsorship, being that their current project Lightfields Home Videos" was partially inspired by the project. Like Tarnation", Lightfields Home Videos" is also being Executive Produced by Van Sant.
The party drew an eclectic mix of some of the most important names in documentary filmmaking, along with rising stars in independent film and the literary world. Guests included Gus Van Sant, Fenton Bailey and Randy Barbato (Inside Deep Throat), Zana Briski and Ross Kauffman (Winner of the 2005 Academy Award for Best Documentary), Justin Kirk (Star of HBO's "Angels in America"), Rodney Evans (IFP Nominee "Brother to Brother"), Amy Heckerling (Director, "Clueless," "Fast Times at Ridgemont High",) Larry Gross ( We Don't Live here Anymore), actress Samantha Mathis (American Psycho), singer Ashlee Simpson, Michael Silverblatt (KCRW's Bookworm), Kevin Thomas (LA Times), Ira Sachs (Winner of Best Picture Sundance '05), and Austin Scarlett (Bravos Project Runway), along with BHFSs Kimberley Kates, Karen Black, and Stephen Eckelberry. In addition, IFC, the independent film channel, brought a film crew to the party to conduct interviews which are set to air on the network.
BHFS studio head Kimberley Kates said; We are thrilled that we had the opportunity to sponsor an event honoring such a prestigious film in the independent community. In addition, it is great to honor a film that hits so close to home in terms of our Lightfields" project."
Lightfields Home Videos" is currently being edited under the supervision of Stephen Eckelberry at the studios post-production facilities, Symphony Entertainment. "Lightfield's Home Videos" is a compilation of videos shot with numerous celebrities over a 20-year period. Featuring many stars such as Cuba Gooding Jr., Juliette Lewis, Beck, Giovanni Ribissi and more, "Lightfield's Home Videos" takes a trip through the life of a fan creating his own movie making career. The film, seen through the view finder of an ambitious 12-year-old, is a visual "love letter" to the movies, music and influences from 1982 to the present.
