New survey looks for common threads in problems faced by embroidery business owners. Results help business owners start and grow their own embroidery businesses through unique discussion forum.

(PRWEB) March 10, 2005 -- What's the hardest part about starting your own home-based embroidery business? Over 250 owners of home-based embroidery businesses were asked to share their biggest challenges in a survey by Artistic ThreadWorks Inc. and the answers are now helping others in starting their own embroidery business.

Artistic ThreadWorks Inc operates a membership website for embroidery hobbyists, but many hobbyists are working hard at becoming professionals. As Holly Pike, president of the company explains, "One area we constantly get questions about from our members is how to start an embroidery business in their home. We decided to survey the embroidery community and were shocked at the number of people looking to start their own embroidery business!"

"They either want to have the business up and running for when they retire, or they want to replace their corporate income with their own business now and not wait for retirement."

The survey solicited answers to 35 questions from people either starting or already operating an embroidery business. It collected data on where the respondents were at in the process of starting their business, what their challenges were, and where they needed more help. The answers are being used to fuel chat inside the members discussion forum and to develop new site features designed to help members grow their own home-based embroidery businesses.

"We learned from our survey that one of the most common challenges for a home-based embroidery business is understanding how to advertise effectively within a budget. The surprising part is that the longer the business has been operating, the more they need help with this area." The survey also showed that only 28% of the respondents that had been in business more than 12 months were grossing over $1,000 in an average month of running their business.

Holly Pike feels that her experience and that of other embroidery business owners can help these fledgling businesses grow and become profitable faster through sharing information with each other.

Holly Pike is President of ArtisticThreadWorks Inc. Their website is located at www.artisticthreadworks.com and the results of this survey are available at the site in the "Embroidery Business" section.
