Hundreds of Lebanese, Christians and Muslims alike, joined a "Convoy of Hope" to Southern Lebanon on Sunday March 6, at 8am, to the War- torn village of Hanin, near the Israeli border, led by a timeshare charity for children.
(PRWEB) March 10, 2005 -- Hundreds of Lebanese, Christians and Muslims alike, joined a "Convoy of Hope" to Southern Lebanon on Sunday March 6, at 8am, to the War- torn village of Hanin, near the Israeli border, led by a timeshare charity for children.
Recent events in the country have united the Spirits of Lebanese who say that want a country where they are free to express themselves.
Cars and Buses with banners of Hope and Peace made a 3 hour journey by a convoy of 6 buses and many cars to the village in a show of solidarity toward peace and hope.
Local television stations filmed the event. Volunteers from England, USA, France, Czech Republic and hundreds of Lebanese rallied behind this demonstration of solidarity for goodwill, and joined in the "United Hearts of Lebanon" campaign, a non- political project of Time4sharing.org.
Their message, demonstrated by their deeds, was to restore life in a barren village, scorched and ravaged by the 15 year civil war, and together to plant a Forest of Hope, where over 3000 trees were planted. This was funded by the charity and had to meet with Un specifications. The cost of the project was 10.00 USD per tree, or $30,000 USD. Assisting the sponsoring were local banks, insurance companies and the Kuwaiti Investment Fund for Economic Development and many other groups and companies.
This initiative of the United Nations, "Trees Instead of Mines" has had the financial support from several governments abroad, but never before did an NGO participate.
The timing in the country has spurred hundreds and hundreds to join in, carrying a shovel and a Lebanese National Flag, its Icon being a Cedar Tree.
The UN project is to encourage organizations to replace areas which were formally mined areas, with trees that can bear fruit and be harvested by the local villagers, therefore empowering them to care for the crops.
"The event was seen as a National Community Action Project, spearheaded by a timeshare charity for underprivileged children, Time4sharing.org, amidst the climate of days uncertain ahead for the tiny nation, but Hope is in the air, and the Roots of Peace are being sown everywhere," said Time4sharing.org Founder and Project Leader, Vivian Boulos-Tolan.
"We were able and fortunate to rally these hundreds of people together from every faction of the country to do something positive, and it was miraculous to see them all working shoulder to shoulder for a common good cause. `Root For Peace' was our campaign mantra," she added.
The charity will inaugurate a children's park in the Forest they planted later this year.
The timeshare charity has created many community action events and children's fun days in Malta, Slovakia, Czech Republic and Malta using the staff of Platinum International and World Class Vacation Club, who have timeshare jobs, to activate its charity arm to raise awareness for empowering underprivileged children.
