(PRWEB) March 11, 2005 -- Screenwriter Cynthia Whitcomb speaks about Writing Movies: The Spine, The Heart, The Mind and The Spirit" for the April 7th meeting of Mid-Valley Willamette Writers in Eugene, Oregon. The meeting opens at 6:30 pm at the Baker Downtown Center, 10th & High, Eugene, and is free to members of Willamette Writers; $5 donation all others.
For aspiring screenwriters and fiction writers, Cynthia will focus on structure, dialogue, hiding exposition and building tension. She will share writing techniques to help writers hook readers and keep them turning pages. Shell explore ways to make readers care and to make them believe. Ways to get a writers structural Left Brain and his or her creative Right Brain to support each other. And ways to make sure that a story is having the impact in the world that a writer wants it to have.
Cynthia Whitcomb has sold dozens of screenplays. Twenty-six of them have been filmed as movies for television. Some of her favorites are Buffalo Girls," I Know My First Name is Steven," Mark Twain and Me," Selma, Lord, Selma" and most recently Caught in the Act" for Lifetime TV. She is the author of The Writers Guide to Writing Your Screenplay and its companion, TWG to Selling Your Screenplay. She has taught screenwriting for many years, 7 at UCLA Film School. She has been nominated for The Emmy, Cable Ace, Writers Guild, Edgar Allan Poe, and Humanitas Awards. She is currently writing the second in a series of films about a single mom P.I. in Nashville, starring Lauren Holly. She has been a popular speaker at the annual Willamette Writers Conference, held this year August 5-th in Portland. She also teaches screenwriting workshops in Portland in the winter and fall.
Willamette Writers' goal is to provide and encourage a creative environment and support system for current and aspiring writers. Since its beginning in 1965, Willamette Writers has provided meeting places for the exchange of ideas and information and has initiated programs designed to help writers increase skills related to the craft of writing. Both published and aspiring writers are invited to join. Dues are $36 a year.

F.I. Goldhaber has written professionally for more than twenty-five years. She has won three awards for her short fiction, was a judge for the PNWA Literary Contest, and teaches Fiction Writing at the Benton Center of Linn-Benton Community College. Her short story, Rebellion," was chosen for quarterfinalist honors in the Writers of the Future Contest (January 1 - March 31, 2004 quarter), placing in the top 15 percent of all entries.
The Portland chapter of Willamette Writers meets on Tuesday, April 5th at 7 pm at the Old Church, SW 11th and Clay. The speakers are Trudy Ludwig and Nancy Osa. They will speak about taking a theme, writing well and ultimately finding their work in print.
Trudy Ludwigs My Secret Bully was first released in 2004 and is due out with further revisions and a change of publisher to Tricycle Press this month. Her next book, Just Kidding, will be available in 2006.
Nancy Osa focuses not only on her editorial consultant business, but writing about her heritage with the publication of her first book, Cuba 15, from Random House. Cuba 15 has been awarded the Delacorte Press Prize for a First Young Adult Novel, ALA Pura Belpre Author Honor Book, ALSC Notable, YALSA Best Book for Young Adults and was a 2004 Oregon Book Award Finalist.
