New York is still the crib of Contemporary Art, but what can artists do to survive?
New York, NY (PRWEB) March 14, 2005 -- The Brooklyn Museum is currently mounting an exhibition of the work of Jean-Michel Basquiat, an acclaimed painter, whose art of signs and symbols penetrates the viewers deepest emotions. Basquiat died of a narcotic overdose in 1988 at the age of 27. As Robert Hughes said in his American Visions, The only thing the market likes better than a hot young artist is a dead hot young artist."
However, whereas New Yorks contemporary fine artists are very much alive, alas, theyre not all lucky enough to be discovered a la Basquiat. Vita brevis, Ars longa!"
Thats why its crucial to support NURTUREart Non-Profit, Inc., the New York City-based fine arts services organization dedicated to nurturing the careers of nearly one thousand career-track emerging fine artists and curators from around the world.
NURTUREarts name is its mission. The objective –to counteract the starving artist" syndrome and help talented artists and curators become full-time, self-supporting professionals.
Since its founding by George J. Robinson in 1997, NURTUREart has presented innumerable events, such as multi-cultural, multi-media fine art exhibitions, artists talks, slide lectures, workshops, symposia, and portfolio reviews. Nurturance includes fostering an appreciation for, and comprehension of, contemporary fine art among the general public, and making contemporary fine art more accessible. NURTUREart has mounted exhibitions in New York City neighborhoods devoid of a single art gallery or museum, often reaching out to children with tailored programs.
Additionally, NURTUREart presents Muse Fuse, monthly gatherings counteract the isolation of the atelier; they are an informal occasion for its Registry Artists and Curators, guests, and speakers to network. Attendees exchange useful career information, offer collegial support, and simply enjoy each other's company. Muse Fuse also offers career-focused guest speakers, open slide nights, and occasionally a field trip.
NURTUREart needs media attention to avoid the agony of anonymity. By way of introduction, visit www.nurtureart.org. Contact Daniela Puglielli at (908) 212 7846 to arrange an interview with appropriate NURTUREart representatives. Inquiries may also be addressed directly via nurtureart@nurtureart.org
