Podcasting is dead...long live Microcasting

Download this press release as an Adobe PDF document.

The first audio program to be Microcast on the Internet is launched by Rhythmic Pulsar Media. Screen Gems, a weekly film review show, hits the ‘fiber just as the semantic debate hits the fan.

Los Angeles, CA (Articlecity/PRWeb) March 17, 2005 -- Podcasting is a term that has completely outlived its usefulness.

To totally misquote Marshall MacLuhan, the medium is the message …not the device", said Renny Manne, producer and host of Screen Gems at a cocktail party in Brentwood to launch the program.

If media distribution has evolved from (through-the-air) ‘broadcasting; to the more specialized ‘narrowcast channel offerings of Pay TV (and radio); there is no doubt that the syndicated distribution of rich media on the internet can only be referred to as ‘Microcasting.

Podcasting has had its day …and must make way for Microcasting. Im pleased to say that all of us at Rhythmic Pulsar Media celebrate the change", continued Manne.

Podcasting was a term and concept initially established to describe the ability to pass on-line ‘syndicated audio media directly into Apples iTunes software and then automatically into Apples iPod music player.

According to John Pruzanski at Microcasting.org, Microcasting is much more than Podcasting. Microcasting by definition includes; all ‘rich media (audio, video and beyond) syndicated across all devices and platforms; the ability to provide a more finely tuned specialization of content on a program-by-program basis rather than a channel-by-channel basis; and most importantly, the concept that a program is delivered on a ‘one-to-one basis. It uses one of the primary benefits of IP communications … the ability to succinctly communicate from one device to another."

Screen Gems, which is microcast on a weekly basis from the central Rhythmic Pulsar Media server and syndicated via a RSS 2.0 feed, is all about the wonder of narrative film and television. It will not present ‘reviews as such, but will present ‘appreciations of the 20th Centurys most distinctive and influential collaborative art form – whether that art was produced for a 72 foot ‘silver screen at the Bijou, or a 12 inch black and white 56 Philco.

Rhythmic Pulsar Media, the publisher of Screen Gems, is a 21st Century production and distribution media group specifically established to pioneer and mature the development of Microcasting - the next evolutionary step in the process of media content specialization.

It develops and produces tightly focused radio and television programming specifically designed to be distributed via on-line ‘syndication … taking full advantage of the ability of technology to democratize media production and distribution.
