Raincoast Books is pleased to announce that four of its authors, Bill Gaston, Aislinn Hunter, Cynthia Nugent and Rex Weyler, have been shortlisted for the prestigious BC Book Prizes. The awards will be presented at the Lieutenant Governor's BC Book Prizes Gala on April 30.
(PRWEB) March 29, 2005, Vancouver -- Get out the red carpet shoes and dust off the tuxedo. Four Raincoast Books authors are going to the Lieutenant Governor's BC Book Prizes Gala, hosted by Vicki Gabereau on Saturday, April 30, 2005, at the Renaissance Hotel Vancouver.
The 21st Annual BC Book Prizes marks the first time in Raincoast's publishing history that the company has four nominations:
- Bill Gaston: Ethel Wilson Fiction Prize for his novel, Sointula
- Aislinn Hunter: Dorothy Livesay Poetry Prize for her poetry book, The Possible Past
- Cynthia Nugent: Sheila A. Egoff Childrens Literature Prize for her young adult book, Francesca and the Magic Bike
- Rex Weyler: Hubert Evans Non-Fiction Prize for his book, Greenpeace: How a Group of Ecologists, Journalists and Visionaries Changed the World
Raincoast Books has been diligently developing and growing the Raincoast publishing program. Four books nominated in four different categories signifies the breadth of the list--fiction, poetry, young adult and teen fiction, and non-fiction--as well as the quality of the writing.
The awards, administered by the West Coast Book Prize Society, celebrate the achievements of BC authors and publishers:
Bill Gaston, nominated for the Ethel Wilson Fiction Prize, is widely considered to be one of Canadas finest authors of fiction.
Aislinn Hunter, nominated for the Dorothy Livesay Poetry Prize, is the author of three previous books--Stay, What's Left Us and Into the Early Hours - which have all been shortlisted for, or won, major national awards.
Cynthia Nugent, nominated for the Sheila A. Egoff Children's Literature Prize, is an award-winning artist as well as a teacher and writer. She has illustrated a number of picture books, including Mister Got To Go and Arnie, Goodness Gracious, Gulliver Mulligan and When Cats Go Wrong.
Rex Weyler, nominated for the Hubert Evans Non-Fiction Prize, is a Pulitzer Prize nominee and one of the founders of Greenpeace International.
