Several organizations team up to promote alcohol awareness

(PRWEB) March 27, 2005 -- April 1st marks the date of the 19th Annual Alcohol Awareness Month, which is the time for parents, schools, communities, organizations, and all of America to take a stand against the problem that is costing the United States $185 billion dollars per year, alcohol abuse and alcoholism.

Alcohol is frequently a factor in the three leading causes of death (motor vehicle crashes, homicides, and suicides) for 15 to 24 year olds," according to The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention statistics. This is why there are several organizations working together to make a better future for tomorrows youth.

This years theme is Together, We Can Stop Underage Drinking." The National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependency President Stacia Murphy says, Working together from all different perspectives on this problem is the only way to head off and to heal the devastating consequences of underage drinking."

The activities will range from the Alcohol-Free Weekend, which is the first weekend of April. It is designed to raise public awareness about the use of alcohol and how it affects individuals, families, and communities.

Thursday, April 7th marks the date for the National Alcohol Screening Day. According to the Chemical Dependency Center, …this is a day for individuals who may not know how much is too much to drink or the amount they drink puts them at risk for an addiction and screening is a motivator for individuals to seek the help they need."

There is an organization that is stepping up to the plate to show the nation that drug and alcohol addiction can be overcome, which is the goal of Executive Director, Gary Smith of Narconon Arrowhead. We have the technology to release everyone from the burdens that come along with an addiction and we want to build a solid foundation for educating our youth on the dangers of drug and alcohol use, which is why we are participating in National Alcohol Awareness Month."

Delivering truth about what drugs and alcohol do to a persons mind and body, whether legal or not, Narconon Arrowhead is one of the nations largest and most successful education and rehabilitation programs and is based on methods developed by American author and humanitarian L. Ron Hubbard. It is a drug-free program with a success rate many times greater than the national average, allowing those that are fully rehabilitated to become responsible once again.
