Research findings released today by specialist datacentre services company, IXEurope, have revealed that there is still widespread inertia from UK tech firms in putting in place plans that deal with technical or physical threats such as viruses and DDoS attacks. The in-depth research, which polled nearly 100 businesses across the UK, found that as many as 24% of companies have no intention of implementing a DR plan.
(PRWEB) April 4, 2005 -- Research findings released today by specialist datacentre services company, IXEurope, have revealed that there is still widespread inertia from UK tech firms in putting in place plans that deal with technical or physical threats such as viruses and DDoS attacks.
The in-depth research, which polled nearly 100 businesses across the UK, found that as many as 24% of companies have no intention of implementing a DR plan. Of the firms claiming to have some form of DR plan in place, 60% admitted that this has only happened in the past 6 months to a year.
The poll also found that nearly three out of five businesses had suffered some form of electronic attack, whether a direct denial-of-service or a virus, providing evidence that these companies are regularly experiencing technical issues that threaten their companys IT security. One anonymous respondent claimed that the estimated cost of such issues to his business was in the region of 150,000.
Guy Willner, IXEurope CEO, said: We were surprised to find that so many businesses are ignoring the external threats that cause network downtime, lost revenue and in worst cases even bankruptcy and closure of business."
The survey focused on tech companies operating in a number of sectors including finance, airline, education and government and telecoms.
It is clear from the research that UK tech companies should be leading by example by doing more to protect themselves from technical or physical threats", continues Willner. There are a number of simple actions and strategies that businesses can implement to prevent any unwanted security problems. We find in particular that the distributed datacentre model is smarter and more resilient than that of the old single datacentre fortress". However it appears that a number of the UKs tech companies are at the back of the class on this one."
