PR veteran starts new agency focused on technology start-ups.

Atlanta, GA (PRWEB) April 4, 2005 -- PR veteran Peter Baron, founder of Atlanta-based SocketPR, has announced the formation of a new PR and marketing agency, Carabiner Communications. Focused on serving technology start-ups, Carabiner specializes in linking clients to media and analysts, venture capitalists, customers, strategic partners and others using proven communication methodologies. The agency has already landed a number of technology clients, including Abbria, Encapsulon, FileVision, Prenova, Tall Maple Systems, Think2020 and Zvolve.

"Our new agency takes its name from the strong metal clips used in mountaineering," explained Peter Baron, principal, Carabiner Communications. "Just as mountain-climbers rely on these devices to securely climb mountains, our clients can count on us for strategy-driven programs and quick connections to key audiences. Start-ups typically have a limited amount of time to make their mark, and require PR strategists who can serve as catalysts to help them build their business."

Baron, who has 20-plus years of high-tech PR experience, previously founded Atlanta-based SocketPR, which was acquired by Hill and Knowlton and is now part of Blanc & Otus. He was also a partner and VP at Alexander Communications (now Alexander Ogilvy PR), and is a founding executive committee member of the Atlanta High Tech CEO Council. Over the course of his career, Baron has directed campaigns for such well-known clients as Apple Computer, Ericsson GE, Motorola and IBM. His earlier experience includes public relations work for clients at Cohn & Wolfe in New York City.

The Carabiner team is comprised of other high-tech PR and marketing professionals, each offering more than a decade of technology marketing experience. Senior members of the agency include Dana Cogan, formerly a VP at Blanc & Otus; Suzanne Moccia, formerly a senior account director with Alexander Ogilvy PR; Leslie Tentler, who served as a senior writer for both Alexander Ogilvy PR and Blanc & Otus; and Tara Leder-Biller, formerly PR manager for SPI Dynamics.

Carabiner's ability to "clip in" experienced team members and other marketing resources with specialized experience as needed, along with the absence of a steep technology learning curve, appeals to technology companies that are looking to move quickly. "Even though many technology companies have survived the bad times and in general, the market is once again growing, they are all looking to tap into experienced PR professionals who know the industry and can be a partner in helping them reach key audiences at the right time with the right message. Our mission is to be a specialty shop that delivers value based on years of experience," said Baron.

Carabiner capabilities include strategy development and market positioning, media and analyst relations, key message development, trade show and conference services, executive media training, as well as outreach to VCs and strategic partners. The agency is located in Northeast Atlanta.
