Mochary Foundation Announces Filmmaking Program for North Miami Beach Senior High School

Seven Aspiring Filmmakers Selected to Attend Free After-school Digital Filmmaking Program

Miami, FL (PRWEB) April 6, 2005 -- Today the Mochary Foundation announced the names of the students enrolled in their first Digital Filmmaking Workshop Program at North Miami Beach High School. The four-month film program is an intensive, after-school filmmaking workshop sponsored by the Mochary Foundation and located at the North Miami Beach High School.

The program runs during the Spring Semester from 3-6PM, Mondays through Thursdays, with student films being shot on weekends. The Mochary Foundation has selected seven exceptionally talented and motivated students and will teach them the basics of filmmaking. The students are:

•   Alvin Osborne, Junior, North Miami Beach Senior High
•   Jonathan Saenz, Junior, North Miami Beach Senior High
•   Paul Laier, Age, Junior, North Miami Beach Senior High
•   Fernando Galan,, Senior, North Miami Beach Senior High
•   Niccolo Castrataro,, Junior, North Miami Beach Senior High School
•   Aniva Zaman. Sophomore, North Miami Beach Senior High
•   Ryan Gonzalez, Junior, North Miami Beach Senior High

By the end of the four-month workshop, each student will have completed three films that they will have written, directed and edited," said Michael Barnes, Film Instructor, and Mochary Foundation. These films will be used as their reel to apply to film schools, obtain summer internships or get jobs in the industry."

Each student was selected for the Filmmaking Program due to their creativity and intense interest in a career in film or the arts. The Mochary Foundation is providing all start-of-the-art equipment ranging from Panasonic AG-DVX 100 camcorders for shooting to Apple Powerbook G4s for editing for the program. The Foundation is also providing free training to the students and to the school. The program also hopes to help each student gain admission to one of the top undergraduate film programs in the country and to provide them with financial assistance throughout their film education.

The Mochary Foundation is headed by Matt Mochary who believes that that access to good education unlocks amazing potential in individuals, communities and countries. The Mochary Foundation seeks to facilitate excellent and practical education in particular localities for a few people, in the hope that its efforts, if viewed as effective, will be replicated by larger foundations and eventually national governments in much larger areas and for far greater populations," said Mr. Mochary.

Equipment
•   Shooting and recording sound on Panasonic AG-DVX 100 camcorders equipped with Audio-Technica AT897 Shotgun microphones
•   Editing on Apple Powerbook G4 notebooks equipped with Mac OS X operating system and Final Cut Pro 4.0 non linear editing software
•   Lighting with Brik 6,000 Watt 6 lamp digital/film Pro Lighting Kit complete with diffusion and color temperature gels
•   Writing scripts on Final Draft 7.0 screenwriting software
•   Storing data on LaCie 160gb d2 external firewire drives
•   Authoring DVDs on Apple's DVD Studio Pro 3

Other Programs in Miami:
Miami-Dade County -- The Mochary Foundation will be awarding ten $500 grants to proposals selected from among the 90+ Teach for America corps members in the Miami area. Grants will be used to seed projects that improve student learning. After 90 days, the projects will be evaluated for effectiveness. Whichever project is deemed most effective will receive an additional $5,000 grant for expansion throughout the Miami-Dade County public school system

The Mochary Foundation is working with Teach for America, the Miami Dade School Board and the North Miami beach Senior High School principal
