Northampton, MA (PRWEB) April 15, 2005 -- Winning Writers is proud to announce it has been selected as one of the "101 Best Web Sites for Writers" for 2005 by Writer's Digest. Winning Writers is today's leading source for poetry contest information. Our online database, Poetry Contest Insider, ranks and profiles over 650 poetry contests. Our free email newsletter offers news about free poetry contests and quality literary resources. Over 14,000 poets and writers subscribe to our newsletter, an increase of over 65% in the past 12 months.

"Readers often ask Writer's Digest if contests are legitimate," says Writer's Digest assistant editor Robin Hampton, "and Winning Writers answers this question with its up-to-date listings and ratings for poetry contests. The free monthly newsletter keeps poets aware of current contests and the Wergle Flomp Free Poetry Contest is fun for all writers." The 101 Best Web Sites for Writers are announced in the May 2005 issue of Writer's Digest.

101 Best Web Sites for Writers
Winning Writers sponsors two poetry contests of its own. Our fourth annual War Poetry Contest, open now through May 31, offers $3,000 in prizes. Our fifth annual Wergle Flomp Poetry Contest, opening on August 15, offers $1,609 in prizes and is free to enter. These contests are both judged by the award-winning poet Jendi Reiter, editor of Winning Writers.

The Wergle Flomp Poetry Contest seeks the best parody poem that has been sent to a 'vanity contest' as a joke. Vanity contests, a widespread phenomenon in the poetry universe, are characterized by low standards. They are willing to publish most of the submissions they receive (typically half or more). They primarily market their publications to the contestants themselves, often at high prices.

"We advise poets to avoid vanity contests," says Winning Writers president Adam Cohen. "They confer little prestige, waste poets' money, and distract them from reading great work and improving their own. We sponsor the Wergle Flomp Contest to educate poets and indulge in some mischievous fun."

Winning Writers was founded in 2001 by Jendi Reiter and Adam Cohen. Our mission is to find and create the best resources for poets and writers. Learn more about Winning Writers and see the winning poems from our contests at http://www.winningwriters.com.
