First Book on PSYOP in Afghanistan to be Released

We are proud to announce the upcoming release of M. E. Roberts new book Villages of the Moon: Psychological Operations in Southern Afghanistan. Villages of the Moon offers a unique perspective into the challenging role of a U.S. Army Psychological Operations Team working in Afghanistan after the collapse of the Taliban and Al Qaeda.

(PRWEB) April 20, 2005 -- Villages of the Moon offers a unique perspective into the challenging role of a U.S. Army Psychological Operations Team working in Afghanistan after the collapse of the Taliban and Al Qaeda. From tiny firebases scattered along hundreds of desolate miles of moonlike" territory, PSYOP teams spread information through face-to-face communication, radios, and printed products which were passed out to local civilians. In tandem with Special Forces, far from the security of an American military base, these small self-contained units traveled the back roads and trails of the Afghan countryside to assess the needs of the people, help encourage local leaders, and inform people of the changes coming about in the country. This is the story of how those operations were carried out in one small area on a global field of battle.

Few books have been written about the widely misunderstood field of PSYOP and even fewer which focus on tactical level operations. Villages of the Moon is the first such book to cover PSYOP in the Afghan campaign. I hope readers will come away from this book with a better understanding of what conditions soldiers are operating under in Afghanistan, how this campaign is progressing, and what tactical PSYOP is," says author, M.E. (Eddie) Roberts.

Eddie Roberts served nine months in Afghanistan with the Combined-Joint Special Operations Task Force-Afghanistan. Villages of the Moon is composed of journal entries kept during the deployment along with letters home, explanatory notes and background material to provide an understanding of what PSYOP is and how it fits into the Global War on Terror. Villages of the Moon is not meant to be the definitive history of the Afghan Campaign, but will provide a glimpse at one aspect of the Global War on Terror.

Villages of the Moon will be released by PublishAmerica May 2005 and available through most book retailers as well as the Publishamerica.com website. Review copies are available from the publisher. Press kits are available on request from the author. Contact the author directly at the address below to schedule interviews.

The views reflected in this book are the authors and not necessarily those of the US Army or US Government.
