Researchers from Human Matrix Sciences and The Hospital for Sick Children discover lazy skin cells as a method to predict the formation of stretch marks.
Visalia, CA (PRWEB) April 29, 2005 -- Collaborating researchers from biotechnology company Human Matrix Sciences, LLC in California and The Hospital for Sick Children in Canada recently discovered a method for predicting if individuals will develop stretch marks as a consequence of pregnancy, severe weight gain, muscle enlargement due to weight training and disease. Dr. Thomas F. Mitts, a leading plastic surgeon and President of Human Matrix Sciences, LLC, will present the results of the groundbreaking research on Saturday, April 30, 2005, at the annual conference of The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery in New Orleans, LA.
Setting out to discover why some people develop stretch marks while others do not in order to develop preventative therapies, the test involved the identification of lazy skin cells—cells that do not multiply or make structurally important proteins at a normal rate compared to cells from persons with no history of stretch marks. Extensive studies showed that all individuals with stretch marks possess lazy skin cells, regardless of proximity to actual stretch marks, and that a tiny skin biopsy can be used to determine predisposition to stretch mark formation.
