Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) May 5, 2005 -- Alternative pop/dance artist, Calanit was nearly arrested while shooting her new music video, 'Do-Dee-Dee-Deem-Dum (Sculptured) on Hollywood Blvd‘s 'Walk Of Fame' in Los Angeles, CA.

The new controversial music video features the International pop star, Calanit, in a Spike Jonze style street performance, singing her new single scantily clad in public, along with wild and crazy pedestrian reactions.

Calanit (pronounced Call-ahh-neet), who looks like a cross between Beyonce and JLO, got more than a few surprised looks...many of them from local security and the police. 'Yeah, it was a pretty close call...I didn't mind being kicked off the street 2 or 3 times, but at least I didn't get arrested...Looking back on it, I can't believe I did it!'

The daring stunt seems to be paying off. The first Internet posting of her outrageous music video shot straight to #2 this week on the www.ifilm.com Top 100 Electronica/Dance channel, eclipsing 98 other established and multi-platinum selling artists.

But that's not the only daring thing Calanit is doing. With the power of the Internet and controversial P2P (Peer to Peer) technology, Calanit is creating a buzz and licensing her single to interested record labels around the world…which is quite a departure from standard music business practices. 'Why give up artistic control, when I can record my own music, make my own video and have it all available for download on ITunes, Napster and my website?!

Calanit seems to be on to the ‘new music business. Its a growing trend with independent artists who retain their recording rights and use the Internet to sell digital downloads, as well as spreading their music like wildfire at the click of a button 'on line.'

Artists like Calanit can now access millions of new fans without the costs once needed to promote and break a new record. To quote a 'CNN' style news banner that scrolls through Calanit's new edgy music video: 'Average cost to release single by major label; $500,000. Cost to release this video on the Internet; $0.'

And while 'Sculptured' is one of Calanit's first singles...it's not Calanit's first hit. Based in New York City, Calanit has also written hits for other artists; namely Paulina Rubio ('Baila Casanova,' an International and Billboard Hit), and Chipz (currently #3 LP in Netherlands). Calanit is also multiple winner of the John Lennon Songwriting Contest and USA Songwriting Competition. Its also Calanit singing Arabic vocals on Ricky Martin's 'One Night Man.

So, What's next for Calanit? 'Hopefully no more close calls with the authorities..haha!'

For more on Calanit, her website, featuring the new single, video and behind the scenes footage is www.calanitmusic.com. MP3s are also available at ITunes, Napster and more than 100 other legal download sites around the world...just in time for a ‘Do-Dee-Dee-Deem-Dum sing-a-long, summer hit.
