Australian Nanotech Leads With Small" Innovations and Big Commercial Opportunities

More than 30 Australian nanotech delegates head for NSTI Nanotech Conference May 9-12, 2005.

Anaheim, CA (NSTI) May 8, 2005 –- Australia, which is fast becoming a world contender in smart nanotech materials such as invisible" coatings and revolutionary nanobio technology, will send its largest ever nanotech delegation to the United States this year at the 2005 Nanotech Conference in Anaheim, May 9-12, 2005. The delegation is dominated by some of the countrys R&D powerhouses of commercial ready IP.

Robert Hunt, Invest Australias Senior Investment Commissioner for North America, said Australia invests more than AUD100 million ($US 75 million) per year in nanotech research. Government and private-sector funding supports world-class researchers and facilities, and creates a vibrant and fast-growing industrial base that is winning international partnerships.

He said more than fifteen R&D centers will be represented at the conference (http://www.nsti.org/Nanotech2005/), as well as some of Australias leading nanotech firms. He encouraged US deal makers to meet with the delegates for a first look at lucrative investment opportunities at Booth # 204.

Global names such as pSividia, Starpharma, Alchemia, and bionic ear maker Cochlear are just a few of the successful firms coming out of Australia," he said.

Indeed one of the firms attending the conference, Advanced Nanotechnology, which specializes in smart nano surfaces or invisible coatings, has already won deals with Avon, L'Oréal and Revlon for their product which is being used in cosmetics to protect against UV rays.

Australian experts Dr. Paul McCormick (Advanced Nanotechnology Ltd) and Dr. Bruce Cornell (Ambri Ltd) will present to the Conference about Australian research and commercialization success in nanotechnology.
