Memorial Day weekend is one of the deadliest holidays for traffic related deaths. The National Safety Commission and Lowest Price Traffic School are calling on all Americans to remember the importance of safe driving practices during this busy weekend.
By taking the time to do simple things like wearing a seat belt, volunteering to be a designated driver, being cautious of distractions, and taking a break at the first sign of drowsiness, you can prevent yourself or someone you love from becoming a statistic.

Jacksonville, Florida (PRWEB) May 23, 2005 -- Summer is quickly approaching and people are starting to make their plans for the Memorial Day weekend. As part of that preparation, the National Safety Commission (NSC) and its subsidiary, Lowest Price Traffic School, are calling on all Americans to remember the importance of safe driving practices. NSC's Memorial Day Weekend Awareness Campaign urges adult and teen drivers to be extra vigilant this holiday weekend.

Statistics from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) rank Memorial Day weekend as one of the deadliest holidays for traffic related deaths. Historically, approximately 500 people are killed each year in automobile accidents during the Memorial Day weekend, half of which are the result of alcohol related crashes.

"Each year, America's annual summer kick-off results in needless traffic fatalities," says NSC President Ken Underwood. "By taking the time to do simple things like wearing a seat belt, volunteering to be a designated driver, being cautious of distractions, and taking a break at the first sign of drowsiness, you can prevent yourself or someone you love from becoming a statistic."

As part of the campaign, NSC is offering teen drivers its monthly newsletter free for the month of May at www.LowestPriceTrafficSchool.com. The newsletter is a compilation of "lessons learned" from the mistakes of fellow teen drivers.

The mission of the National Safety Commission is to offer the highest quality driver education available in the industry at an affordable price. For more information on NSC's Memorial Day Weekend Awareness Campaign, please visit www.NationalSafetyCommission.com or www.LowestPriceTrafficSchool.com.
