Sublime, Gorgeous House of Flying Daggers" Filmed With Cooke Lenses

Sony Classic Release, House of Flying Daggers, was a recipient of the 2004 Cannes Festival Official Selection. This beautifully filmed picture is a love story wrapped inside of an action film. House of Flying Daggers tells of a passionate emotional journey, in which three people suffer for love – it tears them apart, yet they are willing to sacrifice everything for it. With such a widely varied emotional tapestry to convey, it is no wonder director of photography Zhao Xiaoding chose to work with Cooke cinematography lenses to capture the essence of the directors vision.

(PRWEB) May 27, 2005 -- Sony Classic Release, House of Flying Daggers, was a recipient of the 2004 Cannes Festival Official Selection.

Zhany Yimou, who is best known for his beautiful, sensitive portraits of China, directed this sublime film. The House of Flying Daggers bears his trademark for exquisite visual beauty and incisive story telling.

Yimou worked with Zhao Xiaoding, director of photography from the prestigious Beijing Film Academy. In 2001 Xiaoding began his collaboration with Director Yimou, working as the cameraman on Yimous martial arts epic, HERO (2003).

For his work on House of Flying Daggers, Xiaoding used Cooke lenses to achieve some of the clean, sharp and beautiful shots. He used a set of Cooke S4 Primes, a Cooke 5x and 10x zoom which he supplemented with a 300mm Zeiss lenses to photograph the picture. I think Cooke lenses give more detail to the picture, and the contrast is lower, which helps capture subtleties," commented Xiaoding.

Cooke is a storied name in both the cinemagraphic and the ultra-high-end professional photography markets. Known worldwide for their precision, exacting tolerances and superior quality, Cooke lenses are specified by many of the most renowned directors of photography and cinematographers in Hollywood. Cooke S4 Prime lenses, acclaimed for their unique mechanical design and extraordinary photographic qualities, have been used to shoot several of the most renowned and visually beautiful motion pictures of all time, both in Hollywood and internationally. Other recent box office releases shot with Cooke lenses include "Ray," "Bridget Jones's Diary," "Chicago," "Under the Tuscan Sun," "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban" and the extraordinarily beautiful "Girl With a Pearl Earring."
