Witches are among those invited to witness the unveiling of a bronze statue of nose-twitching Witch Samantha Stephens as the city of Salem presents a 9 foot bronze statue of the classic TV icon, according to a local paper.
(PRWEB) June 9, 2005 -- As reported in the Monday, June 6 edition of the Salem News, Wiccans--a modern term for Witch--are invited to attend a dedication of a 9 foot tall bronze statue of famed TV Witch Samantha Stephens, the nose-twitching housewife featured in the classic show Bewitched, in the Witch City of Salem, Massachusetts at 11:30am on June 15 at Lappin Park on Washington Street in the historic downtown.
According to the paper, both TV Land President Larry Jones and Mayor Stanley Usovicz of Salem plan to speak to the crowd of Witches and others who gather for the statue's unveiling, showing how the city's perceptions of its Witches have evolved since the infamous Salem Witch Trials of 1692.
Upon reading the article, local Witches were elated: "We want the world to know that the positive image of a Witch that Samantha casts is a welcome contrast to the negative image that the trials branded us with here in 1692" said Salem Witch Christian Day.
Day's friend, Salem Witch Shawn Poirier commented that the Witches would be blessing the statue at the dedication: "when the statue is unveiled, we will be holding our hands high to celebrate the magic of our TV soul sister Samantha Stephens."
Participants are urged to be there no later than 11:30am if they hope to get a spot up front. Day hopes to see a massive turnout of Salem's Witches proud of the friendly image promoted by Elizabeth Montgomery's classic nose-twitching TV character.
Day and Poirier hope that Witches show their pride by dressing in Samantha's Witchy garb, saying: "the look is witchy black, thigh-high boots, pointy hats , flowing capes, and magical finery. We want to show the world that Witches are alive and well in Salem, Massachusetts and around the world!"
