Whos That Knocking at My Door?

A Closer Look at Entryway Lighting.

(PRWEB) July 7, 2005 -- Your front doorway is the first impression offered to every visitor. How you illuminate an entryway says a lot about the greeting you extend to your guests. It also reveals something about how much you value your own comfort and security at home.

The best and easiest guideline to remember: Front door lighting is not either functional or decorative – it is both. This lighting not only guides people to your home and safely up the front porch at night, it sets a comfort level while they ways for you to come to the door.

Balance the amount of light output with the front environment. Too dim and guests may be concerned they will stumble. Too bright and they will feel as if they have been pinned in a spotlight.

Proportion is important to selecting entryway luminaries. The most frequent mistake is to buy fixtures that are too small. Joann Wills, Training Specialist for New Jersey-based lighting manufacturer Sea Gull Lighting (www.SeaGullLighting.com) suggests, If using a single light on one side of the door, choose a fixture with a height approximately one-third of the height of the door. If using lights on both sides, fixtures with a height one-fourth of the door height are appropriate."

Also, consider a lighted address fixture; youll never be without a comforting light to greet you.
