Major League Cricket (MLC) in New York announced plans for a 2005 inaugural Inter-State Cricket Cup. The plans include hosting a nationally organized tournament with representation from 16 U.S. states including Canada competing on two levels- a Senior Division and an Under-25 Division.

(PRWEB) July 7, 2005 -- Major League Cricket (MLC) in New York, announced plans for a 2005 inaugural InterState Cricket Cup. The plans include hosting a nationally organized tournament with representation from 16 U.S. states including Canada competing on two levels- a Senior Division and an Under-25 Division. MLC Events has chosen Florida as the favorable location for the tournament planned November 14th thru the 20th 2005.

MLC also disclosed the ambitious goal of selecting two 25-member squads from both the Senior and Under-25 Divisions respectively. Coaches and managers will also be selected to work with both squads to train the teams for regional and international competition. The Inter-State Cricket Cup competition will offer state level players the opportunity to show off their abilities and potential. MLC believes that this display will provide tournament officials the criteria needed to accurately select- on two levels- a national U. S. A. Cricket Team.

Bernard J. Cameron, president and CEO of MLC, expressed excitement in being able to offer this national tournament to American cricketers. Mr. Cameron noted that as part of MLCs long-term initiative, the Inter-State Cricket Cup is one of the main strategic anchoring mechanisms for the grassroots development and growth of American cricket.

To promote and market this event, MLC Events will wage a campaign that includes a strategy for securing sponsors who would benefit by access to an estimated over 6 million people belonging to the diverse cricket loving community in the U. S. KBS Media Guide reports that American-born citizens may be unfamiliar with cricket, but there are millions of foreign-born people living in the United States to whom cricket is nothing short of a religion. Worldwide, there are more than 2 billion cricket fans. More than 6 million of them reside in the United States and Canada alone. In addition, more than 50,000 of these enthusiasts actually play the sport as there are more than 700 cricket teams in the United States. This makes the United States the ninth most active cricket playing country in the world. Over 1.3 million Americans watched pay-per-view coverage of the 2003 Cricket World Cup.
