Los Angeles(PRWEB) July 8, 2005 -- Emerging Los Angeles-based photographer Craig Havens is pleased to present Soundings and Opal, his first featured exhibit at the Create:Fixate 2nd Annual All-Photography Show and Optical Lounge and Audio Lab".
Craig Havens is the featured photographer at this event, which will take place in the mezzanine of the Spring Arts Tower, a refurbished Art Deco Bank Building in the heart of Gallery Row in downtown Los Angeles.
The main exhibit, Soundings is comprised of a series of large format black and white silver gelatin prints, seductive images taken on the edge of night. Speaking to the transition between twilight and evening, they are both a translation of a specific moment, and yet evoke all time and every place.
The exhibition will also premiere Opal, a large format C-print studying transience and permanence, derived from digital scans of nothingness. Through its use of saturated color, understated composition, and epic scale, Opal subtly examines a tortured quest and gently beguiles into a transcendent serenity.
Immediately following the Gallery Previews, the Create:Fixate Optical Lounge and Audio Lab" kicks into high gear as two sound systems pump a variety of musical accompaniment, which runs from 7:00pm - 2:00am. For more information please visit http://www.createfixate.com/.
About The Artist
Craig Havens powerfully intimate images strike to the heart of their subject matter and have been prominently featured in such editorial venues as Rolling Stone, JANE, Los Angeles Magazine, WYWS, and Detour. In 2004 he became the first American photographer to be honored with a solo exhibition at the Grand Hall Artists Union in St. Petersburg, Russia. At the forefront of the emerging downtown Los Angeles art scene, Havens is a rising star in the fine art and architectural photography world. After viewing his architectural studies (and with Julius Shulmans blessing), Tom Gilmore commissioned Havens to document the St. Vibiana restoration and other upcoming Gilmore Associates developments. St. Vibiana: Then And Now", a showcase featuring Julius Shulmans and Craig Havens photographs is being planned as well. Craigs next assignment, a book on the history of Blue Note Records, will point his lens at Los Angeles and New York City. Havens is also working with Diane Keaton on an upcoming book of Southern California architecture. Havens began taking photographs at the age of twelve and received his BFA from the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena. He currently resides in the historic neighborhood of Chavez Ravine in the Downtown district of Los Angeles and travels the world frequently for work and inspiration.
