Chicago, IL (PRWEB) July 12, 2005 -- In celebration of the upcoming Chicago Premiere of City of Angels, One Theatre Company will provide patrons with a 1940's general admission ticket price of three dollars for the Thursday, July 14th performance at 8:00 p.m.
We wanted to tie in to the theme and time period of City of Angels by providing a lowered 1940s ticket price. We also felt the need to present Chicago theater customers with a good opportunity to see great, locally produced musical theatre that rivals any New York production," said One Theatre Artistic Director, Joshua Solomon.
Set in the glamorous, seductive world of Hollywood in the 1940's, City of Angels follows the story of a young screenwriter named Stine and his alter ego, Stone, through a series of misadventures, femme fatales, and jazzy production numbers. The show is presented in a unique style so that every movie scene acted out on stage portrays the characters costumes, as well as the sets and props, in a film noir style while the show's real life scenes are played out in glorious Technicolor.
With music by Cy Coleman (Sweet Charity), book by Larry Gelbart (Your Show of Shows, M*A*S*H), lyrics by David Zippel, directed by Kevin Wall, musical direction by Dirk A. Van Brussel. City of Angels begins performances on July 11, 2005 at the Athenaeum Theatre, 2936 Southport in Chicago.
Musically, City of Angels boasts two jazz musical scores, which One Theatre Company will present with a twenty-one-piece orchestra. The first score provides musical numbers that help reveal certain emotions or celebrate particular moments; the other score was written to emulate 1940's vintage movie soundtrack music.
Previews for City of Angels are July 7-July 9, 2005 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, July 10, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. Opening night will be Monday, July 11, 2005 at 8:00 p.m. and will feature a fantastic 1940's themed evening with classic cars, costumed greeters, search lights, a piano player, hors doeuvres and wine.
