(PRWEB) July 14, 2005 -- The Internet Chess Club (ICC"), the worlds premier online subscription chess service, has today announced its participation in a charity event featuring the worlds #2 ranked chess player, Vishwanathan Anand. The World Rapid Chess Champion and former FIDE World Chess Champion is also a champion of causes closer to his heart. The Indian Grandmaster is a spokesperson for Vidyasagar, a non-profit organization that strives for inclusion of children with autism and cerebral palsy (www.vidyasagar.co.in).

ICC is auctioning off ten seats in a simultaneous exhibition with the Super Grandmaster Anand (item number 5218549809 on eBay.com). This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for chess enthusiasts from around the world to play Grandmaster Anand and proceeds go to a wonderful charity. The event takes place Saturday, July 16th with matches beginning at 19.30 IST (India Standard Time)/10 a.m. ET (Eastern Time).

Ten winning bidders, in a Dutch auction on eBay, will earn a seat to play GM Anand on the ICC. The time control will be 90 minutes with a 5 second increment. Seats will only be available to players under the rating of 2200 and they will play with the black pieces. Anand will also be playing 54 boards live in the city of Chennai, India while he plays on The Internet Chess Club.

The Internet Chess Club will match all proceeds from this fundraiser up to $1,000 ($100 per seat). Participation in this event is open to ICC members and nonmembers alike. According to ICC president Joel Berez, We are extremely honored to have one of the worlds greatest chess players on our service, and our members will be thrilled to watch the action. However, we believe that a charitable event should be open to all contributors."

All proceeds go to Vidyasagar, a non-profit organization that Anand represents in India. The organization cares for children with Cerebral Palsy, many of whom play chess. Grandmaster Anand will play from a site within the city of Chennai, India, while also logged into the ICC. For more information on this fundraiser, see www.chessclub.com/anand.

Founded in 1995 as one of the first premium gaming sites on the Internet, today ICC is firmly established as the premier online chess service, with more members, more Grandmasters, more volunteers, and more loyalty from its members than any other classical game service on the Internet. More than 30,000 members from all over the world regularly enjoy playing casual or tournament chess games against each other; watching others play, including hundreds of titled chess masters; attending online lectures, classes, and special events; or simply socializing with fellow chess enthusiasts in a club house thats always open.
