The laboratory facilities of Good Samaritan Hospital in Suffern, N.Y., have received accreditation from the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations. This accreditation acknowledges the high quality of the laboratory at Good Samaritan.

(PRWEB) July 29, 2005 -- The laboratory facilities of Good Samaritan Hospital in Suffern, N.Y., have received accreditation from the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations. This accreditation acknowledges the high quality of the laboratory at Good Samaritan.

To earn this distinction, the program was evaluated according to stringent Joint Commission standards. The process involves assessment of laboratory protocols, and examines more than 250 standards of laboratory procedure, each with individual sub-standards.

Dr. Thomas Snopek, Director of the laboratory at Good Samaritan, said, This is a new process for our lab. It is a good learning experience – one that will benefit us as individuals and as a hospital, but even more importantly it shows that we are providing quality testing and diagnostic services for our patients."

"We are justifiably proud of the steps that Good Samaritan Hospital continually takes to monitor and improve the quality of health care in our community," said Michael Schnieders, Executive Vice President and Administrator of Good Samaritan Hospital. This Joint Commission certification for our laboratory further demonstrates and affirms that commitment to quality."

Good Samaritan Hospital voluntarily pursued this Joint Commission accreditation. Founded in 1951, the Joint Commission seeks to continuously improve the safety and quality of care provided to the public through the provision of health care accreditation and related services that support performance improvement in health care organizations. An independent, not-for-profit organization, the Joint Commission is the nation's oldest and largest standards-setting and accrediting body in health care.

Good Samaritan Hospital is a member of Bon Secours Health System, Inc., one of the nations leading Catholic healthcare systems. It is also part of the regional Bon Secours Charity Health System, which includes St. Anthony Community Hospital in Warwick, N.Y., and Bon Secours Community Hospital in Port Jervis, N.Y. Additionally, Bon Secours Charity Health System provides the services of a Certified Home Health Agency, two long-term care facilities, an assisted living and adult home facility and several other medical programs.
