Rotary Club of Amherst East Gives Scholarship to Steven C. Brooks

The Rotary Club of Amherst East, New York, gave its annual $1,000 scholarship to Williamsville East High School graduating senior Steven Brooks.

(PRWEB) July 7, 2005 -- The Rotary Club of Amherst East gave its annual scholarship to Steven C. Brooks, graduating senior from Williamsville East High School.

We hold a wine tasting event each year to raise funds for local causes," said Paul McAfee, past president of the Rotary Club of Amherst East. This year, gave a $1,000 scholarship to Steven Brooks. We also donated $1,000 to the Amherst Museum, $500 to the Amherst Symphony Orchestra Association, and $1,000 to the Resurrection Lutheran Church Health Center, in Buffalo."

The Rotary Club provides the scholarship to a student with high academic standards who shows leadership in community service. Steven Brooks was a member of the Interact Club of Williamsville East High School.

Interact is Rotary International's service club for young people ages 14-18. Individual Rotary clubs sponsor area Interact clubs, which provide support and guidance, but Interact clubs are self-governing and self-supporting. Each year, Interact clubs complete at least two community service projects, one of which furthers international understanding and goodwill. Through projects, Interact members develop a network of friendships with local and overseas clubs. In the process, Interact members develop leadership skills and learn the value of hard work.

The Rotary Club of Amherst East is part of Rotary International (www.rotary.org).
