The Champions Club (http://www.thechampions.org.uk), a UK-based organisation of young Nigerian professionals and entrepreneurs, is launching The Annual Champions Night 2005. Taking place at the London Marriott Hotel on 27 August, the event celebrates the exceptional achievements of some of the United Kingdoms most successful Nigerians.

(PRWEB) August 3, 2005 -- The Champions Club challenges the social and economic denigration of Nigerians in the UK by recognising their outstanding contributions to society and commerce and redefining the boundaries of success set by the current status quo. The first Annual Champions Night is the inaugural event in a series of yearly banquets that will help the Club forward its aims and raise the profile of successful Nigerians.

The Annual Champions Night features a banquet for 300 guests, a presentation of five 'outstanding Nigerian' awards, a raffle draw in aid of the Sickle Cell Society and keynote speeches from two guest speakers. Entertainment will be provided by a string quintet playing a variety of music ranging from classical to Nigerian folk songs.

The event will be attended by: His Excellency Dr Christopher Kolade, CON, Nigerias foremost citizen in the UK; Fidelis Oditah of South Square barristers; Alexander Amosu - renowned entrepreneur; Tunde Baiyewu of The Lighthouse Family; Dele Olojede 2005 Pulitzer prize winner; Cyril Nri Chief Inspector of Police from The Bill; Joyce Ohajah ITN News Correspondent; Professor Elizabeth Anionwu CBE - Head of Mary Seacole Centre for Nursing Practice; Ms Lola Oni OBE - Nurse Director Brent Sickle Cell & Thalassamia Centre; Caroline Lee Johnson (Chef, The Knock) and Mr Uche Orji Wiz kid Analyst JP Morgan.

‘Kanmi Iyanda of the Champions Club, comments: "Too frequently, Nigerians living and working in the UK think they cannot replicate the success of the indigenous populace. There is a perception that certain goals are unattainable as a result of cultural or language differences, ‘faces that dont fit or ‘ethnic minorities unable to get that far. Over the last 20 years, however, some UK Nigerians have reached for the stars and found success through their exceptional drive, sheer hard work and dogged determination. We are celebrating the achievements of these people through our Annual Champions Night."

The event takes place at the London Marriott Hotel, Regents Park, 128 King Henrys Road, London, NW3 3ST, from 5.30pm until midnight. Tickets cost 40 GBP for an individual or 75 GBP for a couple. For details and bookings, please call Mr Muyiwa Olufunwa on 07748 514868 or Mr Jimi Bolusire on 07770 666 711 or 0207 544 1010 (admittance is by advance ticket only).

NOTES FOR EDITORS
The Champions Club is a networking and socialising forum created August 1998 to bring together like-minded Nigerian professionals who are resident in the UK. The club was borne out of the need to create a forum for the promotion of quality, friendship, family values, the exchange of business resources and the sharing of intellectual ideas. As well as promoting and celebrating success, the Champions Club lends its support and efforts to projects that address societys critical issues in its immediate environment and beyond its community borders. It does this by supporting relevant charities.
