Since 1975, The T. J Martell Foundation has raised more than $200 million to combat the worlds three most deadliest diseases: Cancer, Leukemia and AIDS.

New York, NY (PRWEB) August 8, 2005 -- The T. J. Martell Foundation is proud to announce it will auction off a one-of-a-kind Barbra Streisand lifetime achievement award from the Sony Music collection with proceeds going to Leukemia, Cancer and AIDS Research. In an eBay auction, beginning on Monday, August 15, 2005, at 7:00 p.m. PST, and running for one week only, collectors of music memorabilia can bid on a once-in-a-lifetime chance to own the Lifetime Achievement Award presented to singer/actress Barbra Streisand in honor of her 50th Album, BACK TO BROADWAY.

This award also commemorates her 50th Gold and/or Platinum Certification. This massive framed award, measuring 78-inches tall x 102-inches wide x 3-inches deep and weighing approximately 150-plus pounds, was personally presented to Barbra Streisand by the President of Sony Records, Tommy Mottola, at her BACK TO BROADWAY listening party, May 13, 1993, at the Eugene ONeil Theater in New York City. The award has been proudly displayed at the corporate offices of Sony Music in New York City for 12-years.

The highly ornate, art deco-style award features an oversized gold-leaf wood-frame that surrounds the number 50," which is spelled out by 110 gold compact discs, hereby referred to as CD 50." The CD 50 is mounted against a burgundy background on a black matte surrounded by symmetrical geometric patterned-areas that are embellished with thousands of tiny, screen printed metallic gold records. The 12-inch x 12-inch BACK TO BROADWAY album cover is centered in the zero of the CD 50." To the left of the CD 50" is a full-color ‘Broadway scenes picture collage. The name Barbra" and Back to Broadway," are screened onto the Plexiglass above and below the CD 50," respectively, in matching Playbill-style typeface to appear as if the words are glass-etched. Centered below the CD 50" a gold plaque with black text reads, Presented to Barbra Streisand in celebration of the release of your 50th recording Back to Broadway" and to commemorate your 50th Gold/Platinum certification. From your friends at Columbia Records."

This is a very rare chance for both hardcore collectors of music and/or Barbra Streisand memorabilia, and even everyday music fans, to own a piece of music history, direct from the Sony Music award collection, honoring the most successful female singer and actress in entertainment history.

Columbia/Sony music industry executive Tony Martell, who was instrumental in the signing of Ozzy Osbourne and Stevie Ray Vaughn, among others, founded The T. J. Martell foundation in 1975 in memory of his son, T.J., a victim of leukemia. The T. J Martell Foundation, which has raised more than $200 million over 30-years, remains dedicated to raising funds for the innovative initial and ongoing research into the treatments and cures of the worlds three most deadliest diseases, leukemia, cancer, and AIDS, at the eight leading research facilities throughout the United States. In 2001, Martell Foundation money contributed to the discovery of Gleevec, the breakthrough drug that has a profound effect on a rare strain of leukemia.

All proceeds from the Barbra Streisand Award Charity Auction will benefit the life saving research conducted at The Mayo Clinic, and the Memorial Sloan-Kettering and Columbia Presbyterian Cancer Centers and others. The T. J. Martell Foundation has auctioned off many celebrity experiences for charity on eBay such as a Day In The Studio With Metallica, front row Bon Jovi concert tickets, tickets and stage access for the 2004 and 2005 Vans Warped Tour, autographed instruments, as well as other experiences with top bands and recording artists.

Those individuals interested in bidding on this very special piece of Barbra Streisand memorabilia can access all of the T. J. Martell Foundation eBay auctions by clicking on the T.J. Martell Auctions on eBay" link found at
