2005 Bono Birthday Wells to be Built in Angola

The African Well Fund has recently posted an update on www.africanwellfund.org with information about wells that will be built in Angola with money raised by U2 fans in honor of Bono's birthday.

(PRWEB) August 25, 2005 -- The African Well Fund recently posted information on its website about the wells that will be built with contributions from this years Build a Well for Bonos Birthday campaign. The funds will be used to fund water projects in the Trumba communa located in the Kuito municipality in the Bie province of Angola.

The 3rd annual fundraising drive ran throughout April and early May and raised more than $26,000. The money will be used for spring protection in Trumba which is located in the central highlands of Angola. Seven springs have been identified for protection. Each spring will supply water to about 50 families (250) people. One of the springs will also supply water to a school and a health post. For more detailed information about the project as well as pictures of the present conditions there, please visit http://www.africanwellfund.org/2005-well-sites.html.

Also available on our website are updated reports on the wells funded by the 2004 Build a Well for Bonos birthday campaign. The 2004 funds have been used in the Ntungamo district of Uganda to fund 21 water projects including gravitated spring tanks, rainwater tanks and hand dug wells. A hand dug well in the Gaburira village serves not only 420 community members but also the 800 pupils of the near-by Rugarama Primary School. The Bakiharire well in the Rukoni sub-county serves a population of over 500 people living along the Rwanda-Uganda border thereby providing safe, clean water access for both Ugandan and Rwandan populations in the area.

Donations to the African Well Fund support Africares clean water projects in Africa. Africare is one of the leading private, non-profit charitable U.S. organizations assisting Africa. For more information please visit www.africare.org. The African Well Fund was founded in 2003 by a group of U2 fans to focus on one achievable goal: providing access to clean water. Since its inception, AWF has raised more than $115,000 towards this goal. The African Well Fund believes that access to clean water is a basic human right.
