What Women Everywhere Can Learn from Celebrity Infidelity

Cheating celebrities are always in the news, but infidelity is not just a celebrity problem. It affects women from all walks of life. Infidelity expert Ruth Houston, a guest on the Today Show, looks at 3 recent episodes of celebrity infidelity and tells what women everywhere can learn from these celebrity affairs.

(PRWEB) August 25, 2005 -- Infidelity seems to be a common occurrence among celebrities these days, but it's not just a celebrity problem. Women from all walks of life deal with cheating husbands and extramarital affairs every day. Infidelity expert, Ruth Houston was invited to share her views on celebrity infidelity on the Today Show earlier this week.

Houston, the founder of www.InfidelityAdvice.com and author of "Is He Cheating on You? – 829 Telltale Signs" is frequently called on by the media to comment on celebrity infidelity, high profile infidelity cases, and popular infidelity issues in the news. Citing statistics that 50 to 70% of men are cheating on their mates, Houston told the Today Show audience that 2/3 of the women being cheated have no idea infidelity is taking place because they don't recognize the telltale signs. Expanding on her Today Show comments, Houston gives us an inside look at three recent episodes of celebrity infidelity, and offers advice for couples everywhere and women from all walks of life.

Jude Law and Sienna Miller

"Jude Law did one thing right in that he apologized publicly for cheating on Sienna with his children's nanny. But he invalidated that by blaming Sienna for his behavior because she wasn't there for him – not a good sign. . Jude's ex-wife Sadie Frost said she was not surprised, that it was just a matter of time. Apparently this wasn't Jude's first offense. It seems he has a history of cheating. Cheaters become repeaters if they don't suffer any negative consequences as a result of their cheating. Will the fact that Jude almost lost Sienna be enough to frighten him into being faithful? Only time will tell. He says he's willing to go into therapy, so with professional help, Jude and Sienna may be able to work things out. But he needs to give Sienna ample time to heal. Meanwhile, if Sienna takes him back, she'll need to keep him on a short leash, and make sure she knows how to recognize the telltale signs of an affair. This will immediately alert her if Jude slips back into his old pattern of behavior and she can take quick action at the first hint of an impending affair.

POTENTIAL CHEATER'S QUIZ - Ruth Houston's 7- question quiz will help you determine if you're married to or dating a man who's prone to infidelity. Send an e-mail to InfidelityAdvice@gmail.com ( InfidelityAdvice at gmail.com ) with "Cheater's Quiz" in the subject line.

Jennifer Aniston, Brad Pitt, and Angelina Jolie

"Back in January when the rumors first surfaced, I accurately identified Brad's relationship with Angelina as an inappropriate friendship that had crossed the line into emotional infidelity. I also predicted that if allowed to continue unchecked, it would undermine Brad's marriage to Jen – and that's exactly what happened. Because emotional infidelity starts out as a harmless opposite sex friendship with no sex involved, most people -- like Jen – tend to underestimate this type of affair. But it can be lethal to a marriage. That's why, when you see the early warning signs of emotional infidelity, you should treat is as seriously as you would sexual infidelity. Because that's where it's headed it you don't take immediate action to get the situation under control. If Jen had recognized the telltale signs early on, and understood the seriousness of what was taking place, there were things she could have done that might have saved her marriage. People rarely leave their marriages for a one night stand or a purely sexual affair. But emotional infidelity, can create a bond so strong that it will cause a person to abandon their marriage for someone else –- the way Brad Pitt abandoned his marriage to Jennifer Aniston for Angelina Jolie."

EMOTIONAL INFIDELITY QUIZ – Ruth Houston's Emotional Infidelity Quiz can help you determine if you (or your partner's) friendship with a member of the opposite sex is in danger of becoming emotional infidelity. Terry McMillan and Jonathan Plummer

The down low is back in the public eye because of author Terry McMillan's pending divorce from a husband, who now admits to being gay. The down low is not a "black thing" or a "gay thing" – it's an infidelity thing. In fact, the down low" is basically another form of infidelity; the difference being that the man is cheating – not with a woman, but with another man. I prefer to call it same-sex infidelity. Terry's situation is by no means unique. And like most women involved with a gay or bi-sexual man, Terry is concerned for her health. A man on the down low who engages in unprotected sex poses a health threat to his unsuspecting female partner, and puts her at risk for HIV/AIDS. That's why it's so important to know how to recognize the telltale signs of infidelity. If your husband or boyfriend is on the down low, you can't afford to be the last one to know. It could end up costing you your life.

DOWN LOW DOZEN TIP SHEET – Ruth Houston's Down Low Dozen tip sheet lists 12 telltale signs of a man on the down low, 12 tips for women who suspect their partner of being on the down low, 12 books with practical advice on down low issues, and 12 discussion lists and other resources for women in relationships with men on the down low. Send an e-mail to InfidelityAdvice@gmail.com ( InfidelityAdvice at gmail.com ) with "Down Low Dozen" in the subject line.

While cheating celebrities get the lion's share of attention, couples everywhere have to deal with this problem. Houston, who over the past 11 years has interviewed close to 2000 cheaters, infidelity victims, marriage counselors and other professionals about various aspects of infidelity says an estimated 38 to 53 million women are victims of infidelity.

"It's a problem that affects 80% of all marriages," says Houston. "The sooner you spot the telltale signs of infidelity, the better your chances are of saving the marriage -- or failing that, the better your chances are of protecting yourself legally, financially and sexually." Houston's book "Is He Cheating on You? – 829 Telltale Signs" which was featured on the Today Show this week, lists practically every known sign of infidelity. The book and Houston's website www.InfidelityAdvice.com offer a wealth of practical advice to help women from all walks of life deal with infidelity issues ranging from discovery to recovery.
