Time Still the Top "Fear Factor" When It Comes to Corporate Blogging

Too much time, what to write about and who should write it are key concerns of marketers surveyed. Yet 55% say blogs will be a "must-have" corporate marketing tool.

(PRWEB) August 30, 2005 -- When award-winning WordBiz Report surveyed online marketers about blogging, 65% cited "the time it would take to write" as their most important concern about a corporate blog. 51% worry what to write about; 27% wonder who in their company should write the blog.

Despite these concerns, 80% of the more than 700 surveyed in July and August 2005 say blogs are NOT just a fad and 55% say blogs will become a "must-have corporate marketing tool."

Responses by survey respondents reveal a mixture of excitement and skepticism about blogging as a way to give companies a human voice, to build community and to improve search engine rankings.

Responses range from: "Blogs continue the dialogue started with email marketing. Theyre part of the ‘walls falling down predicted by The Cluetrain Manifesto" to "Blogs are one of many marketing tools. Its not necessary for every business to use every tool."

Other notable results from the blogging survey include widespread familiarity with the term podcast and the non-adoption of RSS newsreaders as a way to read blogs.

70% claim they know what the term podcast means; 46% have downloaded an RSS newsreader or subscribed to a Web-based newsreader. Surprisingly, two-thirds of those whove downloaded a newsreader havent figured out how to use it to subscribe to blogs. This slow adoption of RSS (increasingly referred to as Web feeds) is confirmed by other recent surveys including a July 2005 study released by NielsenNetRatings.com. The Nielsen study said that only one in 10 Weblog readers is using RSS.
