New Search Tool for Non-Commercial Websites

OmniMedicalSearch.com releases a first of its kind search tool for researchers and nerds who want authoritative information without the sales pitch.

(PRWEB) August 11, 2005 -- OmniMedicalSearch.com this week released it's Web2 http://www.omnimedicalsearch.com/web2.html metasearch tool which limits results to the traditionally non-commerical top level domains (TLDs) .gov, .edu, .org and .ac.uk.

"The problem with mainstream search engines is that a search on cancer or heart disease can churn up websites with biased opinions driven by a commercial desire to sell you a questionable product or service with poorly supported claims," OMS founder Jason Morrow said. By eliminating results from .com, .net, .biz and other TLDs designated for commercial use, Morrow believes he can keep out the snake oil salesmen and give searchers easier access to higher quality information.

The internet can be a great source for information and it can also be a very bad place to get information
"The internet can be a great source for information and it can also be a very bad place to get information," he said. "This is never more true then with health and medical information where unsound advice can compromise one's health."

What makes the Web2 option unique is that it can search four different non-profit TLDs at once, Morrow explained.

"Mainstream search engines only allow you to search one domain at a time via their advanced search option," he said. "However, if a user wants to search just one TLD, we have a single domain search feature which allows them to do just that."

Although Web2 is featured on a medical metasearch engine http://www.omnimedicalsearch.com, it can deliver authoritative information on just about any given topic. "It's really a great search tool for nerds like me who just want to learn more about a particular subject," Morrow said. "When I am researching something on the internet, my first priority is to find out what the experts have to say."

With all the specialized search engines for blogs, shopping, music and travel that have been released, Morrow admits to being surprised that no one else has put together a metasearch tool like his for non-commercial web pages.

"I think this metasearch engine is going to have mass appeal once people catch on to it," Morrow added.

Despite his altruistic desire to deliver search results without the sales hyperbole, Morrow does admit two things Web2 users will find. "OMS is supported by third party advertising," he said, "but I've made it undeniably distinguishable. The loud colors and marked advertising make it hard to miss."

He also cautions that some commercial websites and pages do exist on .org and .ac.uk domains and may pollute search results.

"We will be implementing a url filter in the future which will block out commercial websites from the Web2 option as they discovered. Web2 will be in beta mode until we are 100 percent satisfied that users are getting the best non-commercial results from it."
