Mercy Foundation Hosts Second Annual AIDS Awareness Evening Dedicated to Saving Lives

Global activist Dr. Mercy Obeime will host an annual AIDS Awareness Evening dedicated to saving lives on August 27 in Indianapolis.

(PRWEB) August 20, 2005 -- Did you know that every 30 seconds in Africa, two children lose a parent due to AIDS? In fact, many African families struggle to care for the afflicted orphans left behind as a result of this catastrophic disease. The Mercy Foundation is well aware of these facts and is dedicated to creating an overall awareness of this pandemic disease, not only in Africa, but also in Indianapolis.

On August 27, 6 p.m.-11 p.m., at the Madame CJ Walker Theatre Center, 617 Indiana Avenue, the Mercy Foundation will host an event that will feature A Taste of Africa" reception and silent auction.

Enjoy a variety of food from the continent of African and live entertainment from Sounds of Africa.

Additionally, several organizations will be honored for their support of people living with AIDS and programs to stymie transmission.

The event is sponsored by the Indiana Minority Health Coalition, HCO Architects, St. Francis Hospital, WISH-TV, Coalition of 100 Black Women (Indianapolis Chapter), Nigerian Womens Association of Georgia, Doctors Skin Care and Umunna Cultural Association.

The Mercy Foundation was founded by Dr. Mercy Obeime, a Carmel, Indiana doctor originally from Nigeria. The organizations mission is to celebrate life as a precious gift of God, prevent premature deaths in vulnerable populations, and restore hope in those who have lost hope from the burdens of society, disease or illness through healthcare and education.

The cost of the event is $100. A portion of the proceeds will go towards treatment of illnesses and to the families of individuals living in these ill-fated communities.

Please dress either in cocktail or African attire in support of the cause.

For more information on this event or tickets please call (317) 818-0017 or visit the Mercy Foundations web site at www.mercyfoundationinc.org.
