Direct mail marketing can be frustrating, if you don't know the tricks of the trade. Find out one business womans frugal secret on how to get the freshest, most accurate mailnigs lists for free.

Clearwater, Fla. (PRWEB) September 1, 2005 -- Direct mail marketing can be expensive for the business owner, if, you are using a "bad" list. The process can be so frustrating that multiple thousands of businesses give up on viable direct mail campaigns, leaving tens of millions of dollars in unsold revenue to their competitors.

The single most important factor for a successful direct mail campaign? Your mailing lists.

After experiencing much of this frustration myself, I got fed up with buying and mailing to these lists and then, seeing hundreds of return mail pieces due to bad addresses. It was a waste of money on the list and postage. I decided there has to be an easier way to get accurate lists without paying through the nose. So, I started researching. I decided to become my own marketing fanatic on promotion and direct mail. One of my best and biggest secrets? How to get the freshest, most accurate mailing lists for Free.

If you already have a customer list, that is the best list for you to work with. However, if you dont, and you want to market to local businesses, here's what you do. Call or go down to city hall and ask for the most recent list of "New Occupational Licenses". These lists will usually have the business and owners name, address and phone number. These new businesses need to purchase materials and products, so they are an untapped market and therfore, the freshest lists you can obtain.

Some cities have a small processing fee they charge, while a growing number of cities now offer the lists free online. My first list from City Hall cost a whopping $7, now its free. Ask what format they provide the lists in, as some offer them in excel, pdf, or a print out. Not only are these lists the freshest, they are also very accurate, so you will see very limited return mail pieces because of this. Usually they archive the lists by month, so you can ask for several months worth of lists. Believe it or not, this is where a lot of list companies get there "new businesses" lists from, then resell them to clients. You shouldn't have to pay for something when you can get it for free.

Your local City Hall is a gold mine. These lists are the freshest most accurate lists available. Ive grown my company on these lists, and you can too.
