How does Santa really know who is naughty or nice? This season's hottest Christmas item answers this age-old question while promoting family togetherness and holiday tradition.
(PRWEB) September 8, 2005 -- In a day when Christmas is often labeled as "too commercial," the creation of a product based solely on the promotion of a family tradition comes as a welcome change. The mother and daughter team of Carol Aebersold and Chanda Bell have joined forces with award winning artist, Coe Steinwart to share a sacred family tradition with the world.
In the 1970s, when Aebersold's children were very young, she relied on a vintage pixie-elf doll to help her explain how Santa knew who was naughty and who was nice. "Every year during the holidays, I would bring the elf out from among the other Christmas decorations and hide him around the house," Aebersold explained. "The children loved playing hide-and-seek with him, and eventually I realized how enthralled they were with the idea that this elf came straight from the North Pole."
The family adopted the elf into their home by giving him a name, and eventually he even took on important responsibilities. However, according to Aebersold the elf was most helpful because, "It only took a gentle reminder that the elf was watching for errant behavior to be modified."
Throughout the years, even as her children have grown and started families of their own, the elf has always made his annual appearance at the Aebersold home; and while his arrival was nothing new in the winter of 2003, his presence sparked a conversation between Aebersold and her daughter, Chanda Bell, that would lead to the creation of this year's most highly anticipated Christmas gift, The Elf on the Shelf: A Christmas Tradition.
In The Elf on the Shelf: A Christmas Tradition the elf explains that it is his presence in every home which will ultimately allow Santa to separate the good children from the bad. This beautifully illustrated 10x10" hardbound children's picture book comes with a vintage-like pixie elf doll and is encased in a keepsake storage box. The book is written in clever rhyme and includes a certificate in the back of the book for each family to commemorate the adoption of the elf into their home.
"Ultimately, the purpose of The Elf on the Shelf is to help other families begin this fun-filled family tradition on their own," Bell added when asked about the product. "It is so much more than another book with another toy. This product is about enjoying the holidays as a family, creating memories together, and adopting a new tradition."
