As an early responder to the events surrounding Hurricane Katrina, Hosting.com has supported and participated in several immediate efforts to rebuild the Gulf Coasts presence online.

Louisville, KY (PRWEB) September 14, 2005 -- As an early responder to the events surrounding Hurricane Katrina, Hosting.com has supported and participated in several immediate efforts to rebuild the Gulf Coasts presence online. Offering bandwidth to several Gulf Coast-based web sites immediately following the disaster, Hosting.coms online contributions have continued to allow millions of people up-to-date information on flooding, specific relief efforts and housing options in their area.

"In todays online world, we know how essential it is for informational websites to stay up and running, particularly during a crisis situation," said Darren King, President and CEO of Hosting.com. "We have been fortunate to play our small, but vital part in the disaster relief effort by offering additional online resources to critical organizations in the Gulf Coast region."

Bandwidth Provided for www.gnocdc.org
The Greater New Orleans Community Data Centers (GNOCDC) website, located at www.gnocdc.org, received an immediate spike in website traffic on Wednesday, August 31 after it was mentioned on several national television networks. Normally operating at less than .5 megabits per second and suddenly running at approximately 50 megabits per second, the site had become an immediate resource for up-to-date hurricane flooding information. Detecting the spike in web traffic, Hosting.com staff were directly in touch with site representatives and quickly offered additional bandwidth at no charge for this critically important website.

Hosting.com has also provided the back-end support and infrastructure necessary to set up several new websites that are being provided to help residents of the affected areas find new housing. These sites are expected to be fully operational in coming weeks.

Links to Red Cross
Hosting.com is supporting the American Red Cross in their efforts to raise funds for the victims of the Gulf Coast region. A link to a secure online donation page on the Amazon.com website is provided on Hosting.coms home page. The company also provided a link to the Red Cross site in its recent newsletter that was sent to more than 6,000 individuals.

Offline Relief Efforts
In the immediate days following the Hurricane Katrina disaster, Hosting.com was fortunate to be able to help one of its clients, Ashley Furniture, collect donations that would provide water to families and individuals still located in the Gulf Coast region.

Hosting.com will continue to provide support and infrastructure to critical non-profit websites involved in the disaster relief effort. For more information or to speak with us about how we might support an online relief effort, please call us at (502) 214-4100.
